Meridian accident
A Portland driver’s vehicle struck an Illinois driver’s truck Friday in front of Circle K, 325 N. Meridian St., Portland.
Alex R. Parker, 27, 997 Boundary Pike, Apartment 27, pulled out of Circle K’s parking lot to drive south on Meridian Street.
She said she did not see a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado being driven south on Meridian Street by Ricky N. Bane, 51, 947 N. Second Road, Dana, Illinois. Parker’s vehicle struck the rear of the Silverado.
Parker was driving a 2004 Ford Mustang registered to Douglas E. Henry, same address.
Damage in the 5:21 p.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Cited in mishap
A Portland man was cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, failure to have financial responsibility for a vehicle, and failure to report an accident Sunday.
Ronnie A. Hutzler, 61, 1203 S. Massachusetts Ave., was cited by Portland police after his 2011 TMO moped struck a parked van on Massachusetts Avenue near Floral Avenue about 8:40 p.m.
The van, registered to Julie E. and Nathan A. Acker, 1102 S. Massachusetts Ave., was parked in the driveway when it was struck in the left rear.
Damage to the moped and the Ackers’ 2002 Dodge Caravan was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
In area courts
Rickie L. Caldwell, 41, Redkey, entered a plea of guilty in Wells Superior Court to a charge of battery, a Class B misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, with the entire sentence suspended. He was placed on probation for a year and was ordered to undergo anger management counseling. He also assessed $478 in fees, a fine, and court costs.
Hits guardrail
A car driven by a rural Pennville woman struck a guardrail in Wells County about 1:40 p.m. Thursday.
Miriam M. Neuenschwander, 19, told police she had just turned from county road 300 South onto Indiana 116 when something fell on the floor of the Buick Regal she was driving.
When she reached down to retrieve the item, the car struck the guardrail. Damage was estimated at more than $1,000.
