More new jobs headed to Berne

Business Roundup

Up to 140 new jobs will be coming to Berne as two companies establish operations in the former Ficosa building on Liechty Road.
Sherrill Investments and Indiana Coatings Inc. are investing $4 million in the facility.
Indiana Coatings plans to begin production in January and hope to create 120 new jobs by 2018. Sherrill Investments is planning to bring part of its operations to Berne and produce injection mold components, creating about 20 new jobs. Sherrill will be the owner of the building, which has been vacant for two and a half years.
Indiana Coatings serves the automotive and appliance industries and is affiliated with a similar plant in Ontario, Canada. The company received up to $1 million in conditional tax credits from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and tax abatements from local government.
“We are happy to have found Adams County and for the Berne community to become the home of our new business,” said Indiana Coatings treasurer Ashok Bhatt in a prepared statement.

New format
Yum Brands, parent company of Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut, has unveiled plans for a new restaurant format called Taco Bell Cantina.
The new version of Taco Bell will sell alcohol, and the first site is to open this month in the Wicker Park section of Chicago. It will serve beer, wine, sangria, and a margarita-like drink.
A second site is planned for AT&T Park in San Francisco.

Sale approved
The Federal Communications Commission has okayed the sale of WPTA-TV, Fort Wayne’s channel 21, to Quincy Newspapers Inc. and WISE-TV, Fort Wayne’s channel 33, to SagamoreHill of Indiana.
The sale is part of a seven-station deal that has been estimated at $190 million. The deal is expected to be closed by the end of the year.
For 10 years, the two stations have shared a sales force. That will change under the new ownership. The two stations operate from a single location and consolidated operations in 2005, eliminating one local news operation. The Journal-Gazette reported this week that the news situation will not change. WPTA staff will continue to generate a news broadcast for WISE.
Quincy Newspapers has owned a TV station in South Bend for 40 years.
