Activities to begin Sunday at Swiss Village
Taking Note
Active Aging Week will be celebrated at the Arthur and Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion at Swiss Village in Berne beginning Sunday and will continue through Oct. 2.
The theme will be “Live Your Adventure” and all activities will be for seniors 55 and older.
An ice cream social will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday with music performed by Gabe Bailey.
Monday’s activities begin at 6 a.m. with water aerobics. Aerobics will be held again at 8 a.m., with walking taking place at the same time. A survival challenge obstacle course will be held at 10 a.m. SilverSneakers Classic will be at 1 p.m., outdoor yoga will be at 2 p.m. and an adventurous food demonstration and tasting will be at 3:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, Sept. 29, weight room instruction and water walking will both begin at 9 a.m., followed by water toning at 9:45 a.m.
Seniors will leave at 11 a.m. for Albion, and return at 3:30 p.m., to visit the Black Pine Animal Sanctuary and have lunch. The cost is $10. To register, call Michelle McIntosh at (260) 589- 3173.
On Wednesday, Sept. 30, water aerobics will begin at 6 a.m. Aerobics will be held again at 8 a.m., with walking taking place at the same time and indoor yoga will be at 9 a.m.
Canvas painting, with artist Ruth Green, will begin at 10:30 a.m. The cost is $10. SilverSneakers Classic will be at 1 p.m. and John and LaNae Abnet will speak at 2:30 p.m. about their kayak trip from the Wabash River to the Gulf of Mexico.
Activities on Thursday, Oct. 1, begin with weight room instruction and water walking at 9 a.m., followed by water toning at 9:45 a.m. A free lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m., with entertainment by Chris Clemens.
Pool relay races will begin at 2 p.m. and a campfire will be at 7 p.m. with story telling by Chris Clemens. Bring a camp chair.
The week wraps up on Friday, Oct. 2, with a health and wellness fair from 9 to 11 a.m. Bingo will begin at 11 a.m. and the Alley Cat Dancers will perform at 1 p.m. in Swiss Village Auditorium.
Studied abroad
Alison Koch of Fort Recovery, a senior studying professional writing at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, spent the summer semester in Italy as part of a study abroad group.
Food festival
Jay County Chamber of Commerce will have its Food & Drink Festival from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, at Jay Community Center, 115 E. Water St. in Portland.
Come and sample food from chamber members and restaurants in Jay County.
The festival will also feature cooking demonstrations, a beer and wine pavilion and home-grown foods and entertainment will include music and dance demonstrations.
The cost is $15 for adults and $12 for children and seniors. For more information or to order tickets, call the Jay County Chamber of Commerce at (260) 726-4481.
