Fort Recovery spikers sweep Russia Raiders

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team earned its second sweep in as many matches Monday.
The Indians beat the Russia Raiders in the first set 25-23, then cruised in the final two to the tune of 25-12, 25-13.
Kendra Siefring and Cassidy Martin led the Indians (8-6) with eight and seven kills respectively. Devin Post tallied six kills, and Kirsten Jutte chipped in with four. Siefring also added four blocks and five digs, and Martin had three blocks as well. Jutte recorded 19 assists.
Madison Grover and Jutte paced the Tribe defense with 13 and 12 digs respectively. Alexis Bubp had eight, and Carley Stone added five digs to go with her four aces.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also beat the Raiders, 25-20, 25-16. Sydney Dues notched five kills and three aces to lead the Indians. Gracie Thien, Brooke Gaerke and Carly Link all had three kills. Jill Roessner and Madi Rammel both tallied seven assists, and Hannah Knapke recorded four digs.
Tribe golfers win
CELINA — All seven Fort Recovery golfers shot in 49 or below Monday at Mercer County Elks.
It resulted in a 173-202 victory against the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks.
FRHS junior Chase Bruns made par four times on his way to a team-best 41, beating classmate Jackson Hobbs by one stroke. Hobbs had three pars and one of the squad’s three birdies, doing so on the par-5 fifth hole.
Nick Litmer also had a birdie, and made par four times to shoot a 43. Micaiah Cox, who also birdied the fifth hole, finished with a 47 to complete the Indians’ team score.
Also competing for Fort Recovery (9-7) were Austin Faller (48), Colt Greishop (48) and Calvin Rammel (49).
Josh Rehmert of Mississinawa Valley was match medalist with a 3-over-par 39.
Stars blank Generals
BERNE — The South Adams boys tennis team was hardly challenged Monday in a 5-0 victory against the Wayne Generals.
South Adams (13-2) only surrendered six games.
All three singles players for South Adams won 6-0, 6-0 to secure the win. David Villarroel beat Thomas Wartenberg at No. 1 singles, David Muselman defeated Isaac Romary at No. 2 singles and at No. 3 singles Dexter Miller knocked off Jacob Moreno.
The Starfire’s No. 1 doubles team of Marcus Teeter and Aiden Bahre defeated Noah Hunley and Sam Laird 6-0, 6-3. Jamison Kistler and Kam DeLong won by the same score at No. 2 doubles against Jack Bixby and Cameron Fyfe.
South Adams’ junior varsity team lost 3-1, with Paul Stuckey and Brayden Collingsworth getting the only Starfire victory. They beat Noah Thompson and Garrett Richardson at No. 1 doubles 6-2.
Pearson, FR rout
FORT RECOVERY — Clayton Pearson provided the offense.
Brayden Schoen sparked the Tribe defense.
Pearson tossed three touchdown passes and Schoen had two interceptions Monday as the Fort Recovery freshman football team defeated the Parkway Panthers, 22-0.
Peyton Jutte hauled in two of Pearson’s touchdown passes, one from 5-yards out and the other from the 10. Pearson then hit Derek Siefring for a 15-yard score.
He also completed 2-point conversion passes to Kody Shinaberry and Jutte.
Fort Recovery moves to 2-0 on the season.
