Food & Drink Festival is Sunday
Taking Note
Come and sample food from chamber members and restaurants in Jay County at the Jay County Chamber of Commerce Food & Drink Festival.
It will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Jay Community Center, 115 E. Water St. in Portland.
The festival will also feature cooking demonstrations, a beer and wine pavilion, home-grown foods, musical entertainment and dance demonstrations.
The cost is $15 for adults, $12 for children, ages five to 12, and $12 for seniors 60 and older. For more information or to order tickets, call the Jay County Chamber of Commerce at (260) 726-4481.

Fall festival
Redkey Fall Festival will be held in October in historic downtown Redkey.
The festival will be Oct. 23 and 24 and will feature local artists, antiques, arts and crafts, music, an auction and food.
Vendors may rent a space on West High Street for $10. Sponsorship for the event begins at $25, payable to Redkey Festival Committee, and the name will be included on all advertising and flyers.
Sponsors now include Hatzell Bros. Standing Seam Solutions and Bob Cox.

Energy assistance
Community & Family Services, Inc. will be accepting appointments for its Energy Assistance Program beginning Oct. 1. The program offers a one-time credit on heat and electric bills to households that qualify.
Gross income guidelines are $17,655 for a family of one; $23,895 for a family of two; $30,135 for a family of three; $36,375 for a family of four; and $42,615 for a family of five. For each additional member, add $6,240.

Members of the Beta Theta Chapter of Tri Kappa recently attended Tri Kappa Province Convention and Officer Training.

CPR/AED class
A non-healthcare provider CPR/AED HeartSaver Class will be taught in October at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
The class will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 3, in Decatur Room 1 of the hospital.
In addition to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), students will also learn how to use an automatic external defibrillator (AED), which can deliver a shock to restart the heart of a patient in cardiac arrest.

Photo contest
A photo contest in honor of the Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project is currently accepting entries.
The theme is “200 Years Along the Wabash” and photos should convey the role of the Wabash River in Indiana’s past, present and future.
Categories are “Then and Now,” “Historic Photos,” “People and Places” and “Glimpse the Future.”

Blackford center
A coiled basketry class will be taught in October at the Blackford County Arts Center, 107 W. Washington St. in Hartford City.
The four-part class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27, with students taking home a finished basket.
Artist Leslie Newton will teach the ancient method of basket coiling used by Anasazi Indians of the Southwest.

Hand building with clay will be taught from noon until 2 p.m. on those same four days. The cost is $80.
A free “Make-It and Take-It” activity for kindergarten through sixth grade students will be held between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10. Free-will donations will be accepted to cover the cost of supplies.
Also on Oct. 10, an evening of acrylic painting, light refreshments, and wine will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
A teaching artist will guide participants as they paint with acrylics and complete a painting by the end of the evening. The cost is $25.00.

Family LifeCare will host Camp Hope in October.
Camp Hope is for children and teens who have experienced any type of loss, including death of a loved one or pet, divorce or separation from parents, serious illness or injury or a move. Families are also accepted.
The camp will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Lodge at Ouabache State Park in Bluffton.
Activities to help with grief and emotional support will include a mini petting zoo, games, crafts, lunch, a campfire, an adult education session and a “Bubble Remembrance.” Please bring photos or items about loved ones to share.
