Jay County Patriots

Last week vs. Bluffton: Jay County and?Bluffton appeared to be in for a shootout, that is until Tiger standout D’Wayne Eskridge left the game with an ankle injury.?He had scored twice, both on rushes of more than 50 yards. After his departure, Jay County scored twice in the second half and kept the Tigers at bay in a 36-28 victory. Cole Stigleman and Levi Hummel both had a pair of rushing TDs for the Patriots.
Season leaders: Passing — Holton Hill – 30-of-72 passing for 485 yards, six touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Rushing — Cole Stigleman – 56 carries for 372 yards and four touchdowns. Receiving — Aaron Neal – eight receptions for 174 yards and one touchdown. Defense — Caleb Kunkle – 37 tackles, five tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Woodlan Warriors
Woodburn, 5-0 (3-0 ACAC)

Last week at Southern Wells: Class 3A fifth-ranked Woodlan scored 42 points in the first half in a 61-20 clubbing of Class A No. 9 Adams Central. The Warriors racked up 570 yards of total offense, led by quarterback Justin Durkes’ 247 passing yards and Mitchell Vanbrocklin’s 126 rushing yards.
Season leaders: Passing — Justin Durkes – 35-of-60 passing for 629 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. Rushing — Mitchell Vanbrocklin – 109 carries for 762 yards and 11 touchdowns. Receiving — Tre’von McCarter – 11 receptions for 322 yards and six touchdowns. Defense — Jordan Delagrange – 35 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one fumble recovery.
Last season: Woodlan used a steady mix of rush and pass plays in a 34-7 victory against Jay County in Portland. The Warriors recorded 448 yards of total offense and scored in every quarter. VanBrocklin rushed for 208 yards on 26 carries to lead the Warriors. Senior Andrew McShane scored the lone touchdown for the Patriots. Stigleman led JCHS with 132 rushing yards.
Game notes: This is the second meeting between Woodlan and Jay County ... Woodlan enters the game ranked No 4. in Class 2A, and this will be the fourth ranked opponent the Patriots have faced this season ... This is the first of three consecutive road games for Jay County, which travels to South Adams in week seven and Indianapolis Marshall in week eight before returning home against Heritage to close out the regular season.
