Jay girls draw Delta
INDIANAPOLIS — Jay County’s girls will face a familiar path to a sectional title.
The boys will have to take a new direction.
In the IHSAA boys and girls soccer sectional pairings released Friday, the two-time defending champion Jay County High School girls soccer team drew a date with Delta in the Class 2A Sectional 15 semifinal at Yorktown. The defending sectional champion JCHS boys came away with a first-round game against Muncie Central.
The Patriot girls also opened the 2014 tournament against Delta on the way to the sectional title. The boys did not see Muncie Central in their run to the regional last season.
South Adams’ squads were each open against Allen County Athletic Conference rivals — the girls will play Woodland the boys will take on Heritage.
The Patriot girls (5-3-2) and Eagles (5-5-2) played to a 3-3 tie Tuesday, and will meet at 5 p.m. Oct. 6 at Yorktown Sports Park. It will be the first of two semifinal contests, with Muncie Central (4-5) and Yorktown (6-6-1) to follow at 7 p.m.
The sectional championship is slated for 2 p.m. Oct. 10. Jay County has defeated Delta in the semifinal in each of the last two seasons before knocking off the host Yorktown Tigers in back-to-back sectional championships. However, Yorktown defeated Jay County 2-1 on Thursday.
Jay County has not played Muncie Central this season, but it did beat the Bearcats 7-0 in the regular season in 2014.
South Adams’ girls squad (6-6) plays Allen County Athletic Conference foe Woodlan (0-9-2) at 6 p.m. Oct. 5 in the opening round of the Class A Sectional 37 tournament at Bellmont. The winner advances to the semifinal against the host Squaws at 5 p.m. Oct. 5.
The other two opening-round games pit Blackhawk Christian (5-9-1) against Bishop Luers (7-6) at 5 p.m. Oct. 6, with Canterbury (7-3-1) and Heritage (2-12) squaring off at 7 p.m. the same night.
The winner of the Oct. 6 meetings will play in the second semifinal at 7 p.m. Oct. 8. The championship game is slated for 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
South Adams also plays Woodlan at 10 a.m. today in the second ACAC game for both teams.
Jay County’s boys squad will get a chance to avenge a season-opening loss in its sectional opener.
The Patriots (5-5) meet the Muncie Central Bearcats (11-1) at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 in the second game of a semifinal doubleheader. The Bearcats defeated the Patriots 2-0 on Aug. 18 in Muncie. Delta (3-10) meets Yorktown (4-6-2) in the first semifinal, with the winners scheduled to meet in the championship game at 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
JCHS beat Delta 4-0 and Yorktown 2-1 on the way to the 2014 sectional crown.
In the Class A Sectional 39 tournament at Bellmont, South Adams’ boys team (4-6-2) meets ACAC foe Heritage at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 in the second game of a semifinal doubleheader. Bishop Luers (4-9-3) and the host Braves (7-5-1) meet in the 5 p.m. tilt.
