Duran, LeMaster lead East Jay football

MONROEVILLE — Logan Duran and MaCuly LeMaster both scored two touchdowns Tuesday as the East Jay Middle School eighth grade football team defeated Heritage 42-0.
The Chief seventh graders tied, 12-12.
Duran scored on a 25-yard pass from quarterback Gabe Link in the first quarter, and added a 55-yard run later in the opening period.
LeMaster found the end zone on rushing touchdowns in the second and third quarter on runs of 7 and 5 yards respectively.
Garrett Mann and Hunter Mills also had rushing touchdowns. Bradon McIntire and Orlando Castro both recovered fumbles.
Bailey Cox scored two rushing touchdowns for the seventh graders as he totaled 50 yards on eight carries.
R.J. Lennartz and Landon Grimes tallied 60 and 45 rushing yards respectively. Lennartz and Cox had five tackles to pace the Chief defense.
The eighth graders move to 5-2 on the season, while the seventh graders are 3-3-1.

Chiefs sweep Raiders
East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams swept the Southern Wells Raiders on Tuesday.
The eighth graders won 25-3, 25-13, and the seventh graders defeated the Raiders 25-17, 25-20.
Logan Poore had 16 service points to lead the eighth graders. She also tallied three kills to tie Sara Hemmelgarn for the team lead.
Elyse Bost tallied 10 points, six of which were aces, while also adding four assists and three digs. Kaitlyn Morningstar and Hemmelgarn had three service points.
Natalie Miles’ eight aces led the EJMS seventh graders. Kearston Myers followed with four aces, with Pacie Denney and Alana Kunkler tallying three aces each. Miles and Kunkler notched the only two kills for the Chiefs. Maria Dirksen had two digs.

Tigers top Chiefs
YORKTOWN — The East Jay sixth grade volleyball teams both lost to the Yorktown Tigers on Tuesday.
The A team lost 25-20, 25-5, and the B squad fell 25-13.
Maddy Wenk, Kyanne Anderson, Jayden Claytor, Lilly Hedges and Rayln Chaffins each had one kill for the A team. Grace Brewster and Wenk had two digs apiece.
Hedges tallied four aces on her way to seven serve points, and Madison Dirksen had five points and one ace.
Abby Elzey led the B team with three points, and Makaya Champ had one.

Eagles beat Indians

UNION CITY — West Jay’s seventh grade volleyball team held off Union City on Tuesday for a three-set victory.
The Eagles bounced back from a second-set loss for a 25-24, 12-25, 15-14 victory.
West Jay’s eighth graders lost 25-11, 25-21.
Abbi Kuss had four aces on her way to seven points for the WJMS seventh graders. Jayden Price was second on the team with six points, and Grace Morgan added four, all of which were aces.
Chloe Campbell and Demi Grove had three points each.
Allison Jobe led the eighth graders with seven points, to go with her one ace and one kill.
Kymia Hankins had three points on three aces, with Calli Stigleman and Trinity Current adding two points apiece. Stigleman paced the squad with three kills.

Tribe 7th wins
MINSTER, Ohio — Paige Fortkamp and a pair of Wendels led the Fort Recovery seventh grade volleyball team to a victory against the Minster Wildcats on Tuesday.
The Tribe won 25-21, 18-25, 25-18, and the eighth graders lost 16-25, 25-11, 25-21.
Hope Wendel, Kierra Wendel and Fortkamp had four kills apiece for the seventh graders (9-2, 5-1 Midwest Athletic Conference). Kierra Wendel also tallied eight digs and Fortkamp added six.
Ava Bubp led the Indians with eight points and seven assists, and Hope Wendel added three assists. Kyra Clark had four digs and two assists.
Val Muhlenkamp and Paige Jutte recorded nine and eight kills respectively for the eighth grade Indians (10-2, 5-1 MAC).
Chloe Showalter totaled nine assists and Rachel Acheson had six to go with her team-high eight points.

Stars still perfect
MONROE — The South Adams seventh and eighth grade football teams remained unbeaten Tuesday with victories against Adams Central.
The eighth grade Stars won 34-0, and the seventh graders earned a 28-6 victory.
Nic Stuber ran for three touchdowns for the eighth graders, including two in the fourth quarter from 12 and 31 yards respectively.
Collin Shafer added touchdown runs of 60 and 26 yards. Stuber totaled 128 yards on 12 carries, and Shaffer had 102 yards on four carries.
For the Starfire seventh graders, James Arnold connected with Aaron Timmons for two touchdowns, a 38-yarder in the first quarter and a 47-yard score in the second.
Arnold then ran for a 1-yard score in the third quarter, and Alex Gorney found the end zone from the 6-yard line in the fourth quarter.
Arnold completed three of his four pass attempts for 160 yards.
