Tribe golfers finish seventh

CELINA — Fort Recovery High School’s girls golf team ended its season Tuesday with a seventh-place finish in the sectional tournament.
The Indians shot a 421 at The Fox’s Den Golf Club.
Minster won the team title with a 361. St. Henry (374) and Lincolnview (384) were second and third respectively.
Trisha Thien led the Indians with a 101. Tori Vaughn followed with a 103, and Emily Bruns had a 108. Ellie Keller and Cori Stone both carded 109s to complete the team total for Fort Recovery.
Alli Fischer of Minster was the sectional medalist with an 80. Jill Schmitmeyer (81) of St. Marys, Antwerp’s Amanda Roberts (93) and Gilly Wiseman (94) of Wayne Trace advanced to the district meet.
The top three teams and top three individuals not on advancing teams qualify for district.
Jay whacks Blackford
HARTFORD CITY — The Patriots snapped their winless streak in a big way.
Lucy Laux scored three goals and Gabbie Mann added another Tuesday as the Jay County girls soccer team whacked the Blackford Bruins, 4-1.
It was the first win in more than two weeks for the Patriots (6-3-2), who were 0-2-1 in their last three games.
Laux, a sophomore, tallied her fourth hat trick of the season, helping the Patriots to a 3-0 lead at halftime. She now has 19 goals on the year, and has scored a goal in nine of Jay County’s 11 games.
Senior Emma Laux returned from a lower leg injury to record two assists. Sophie Bader and Mann each had an assist as well.
Jay County travels to take on sectional rival Muncie Central at 5 p.m. Thursday.

In the OHSAA football computer rankings, the Fort Recovery football team stayed put.
The Indians, who are 5-0 for the first time in program history, are ranked third in Division VII Region 26. The Tribe’s average score is 5.75, two-tenths behind Ada. Miami Valley Christian Academy is the top-ranked team in the region with an average of 6.47.
De Graff Riverside is fourth, Covington is fifth and Midwest Athletic Conference foe Minster is sixth.
Troy Christian and Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy are seventh and eighth respectively.
The top eight teams from each region earn a playoff berth.
SA beats Woodlan
BERNE — The Warriors were one point away from forcing a fifth set.
The Starfires didn’t let the match get past four.
South Adams’ volleyball team went on a 4-0 run and needed extra points to defeat the Woodlan Warriors, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 27-25.
Cindy In’t Groen racked up 14 kills to lead the Starfires (15-6, 3-2 Allen County Athletic Conference). Madi Wurster tallied 11 kills, with Addie Wanner and Kylie Grabau adding eight and seven respectively.
Morgan Alberson paced the defense with 17 digs. She also matched Wanner’s effort with a pair of blocks.
Julia Grabau totaled 40 assists.
South Adams’ junior varsity team bounced back from a second-set loss to beat the Warriors 25-12, 19-25, 15-9.
Jade Farlow and Bella Ramirez had six and five kills respectively. Sydney Pierce and Farlow both had four aces, with Pierce leading the defense with 13 digs.
