Girls track finishes first

HARTFORD CITY — Jay County High School’s girls track team won 11 events on its way to a first-place finish Tuesday in a three-team meet.
Jay County (2-0) totaled 82 points for a pair of wins. The Southern Wells Raiders finished second with 44 points, and the host Bruins scored 18 points for third.
Sophomore Lucy Laux earned two individual victories and helped in another. She won the 200-meter run in 29.38 seconds, and jumped 15 feet, 4 inches, to win the long jump. Laux joined her older sister Emma, Emily Muhlenkamp and Taylor Homan for a first-place finish in the 4x100 relay. They had a time of 55.44 seconds.
Britlyn Dues (110 hurdles – 16.50), Emma Laux (100 dash – 13.42), Kendra Muhlenkamp (1,600 run – 5 minutes, 49 seconds), Sydney Robbins (300 hurdles – 56.06), Erika Kunkler (800 run – 2:37) and Bekah Corwin (shot put – 30 feet, 5 inches) also won their respective events.
The Patriots’ 4x800 relay team of Megan Wellman, Kellie Fortkamp, Kendra Muhlenkamp and Kunkler won with a time of 10:58. Muhlenkamp and Kunkler joined Emily Muhlenkamp and Dues to take first in the 4x400 relay in 4:33.
Boys results were not provided.
Tribe falls to Cavs
FORT RECOVERY — A four-run first inning was too much for the Fort Recovery baseball team to overcome in a 7-3 loss to the Coldwater Cavaliers on Tuesday.
It was the second loss in as many days for the Tribe (5-3).
The Indians clawed back with two runs in the second inning and one more in the third to get to within one, 4-3, but the Cavaliers added runs in the fourth, fifth and seven innings to pull away.
Jackson Hobbs had the only extra-base hit for the Indians, hitting a double. Hunter Boughman, Kyle Schroer and Ross and Will Homan all had hits for the Indians. Chase Bruns, Will Homan and Boughman each had RBIs.
Boughman (1-1) suffered the loss, giving up five runs — four earned — on six hits while walking three and striking out one in 3 2/3 innings.
SA?walks off
BERNE — Corbin Blomeke hit a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday, lifting the South Adams baseball team to a 6-5 victory against the Winchester Golden Falcons.
Back-to-back walks by Justin Nussbaum and Jayden Dull loaded the bases for South Adams (1-1) in the bottom of the seventh inning. Blomeke then drove a 2-2 pitch from Winchester’s Joe Webb into right field, scoring Mark Clary for the winning run. It was Blomeke’s game-high third hit of the day, and his second RBI.
Joe Stuber and Dull also added two hits, with Braxton Haight, Clary and Nussbaum also chipping in with singles.
Clary (1-0) earned the win, tossing three innings of relief, giving up one earned run on one hit and striking out two in three innings.
Stars hold off Bruins
HARTFORD CITY — The South Adams softball team held off a late surge and Katelin Augsburger tossed a gem in a 5-4 defeat of the Blackford Bruins on Tuesday.
Down to its last out and trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Blackford scored three unearned runs and had the potential game-tying run on third.
Augsburger (1-0), who until that point had 16 strikeouts including the first two in the frame, pushed her total to 17 to record the final out and preserve the win. She scattered six hits in seven innings and walked three.
Keirstyn Grimm led the Starfires (1-0) with three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs. Augsburger chipped in offensively with three singles. Morgan Alberson and Abby Myers each had RBIs. Isabella Ramirez, Madison Morgan and Victoria Raugh also added hits.
