DANVILLE, Ill. — Mason Winner continues to win.
Winner, an East Jay Middle School eighth grader, went undefeated for the Indiana Blue wrestling club Saturday and Sunday at the USA Wrestling National Middle School Duals at David Palmer Arena.
Winner went 7-0 for the two-day tournament, helping Indiana Blue place sixth in a tournament of 16 teams.
The 140-pounder earned two victories by pin, needing 2 minutes, 52 seconds, to beat Ethan Pappas of the Ohio Stallions Black, then pinned Jacob LaPlace of Indiana Gold in 3:59.
LaPlace defeated Winner during the IHSWCA Middle School state meet Feb. 14.
Winner won a 6-3 decision against Georgia’s Noah Pettigrew, beat Nebraska Red’s Colby Coons by a 12-0 major decision, knocked off IKWF Silver’s Noah Ross by technical fall 19-3, and outlasted Kentucky Red’s Micah Ervin for a 3-1 overtime victory.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Tony Wood was one win away from earning a medal.
Wood, a fourth grader at East Elementary School in Portland, went 3-2 Saturday and Sunday in the NUWAY Nationals.
The 62-pounder won his first match of the 9-and-10-year-old division by a 10-4 decision over Kaleb Salazar of Wawasee’s Viper Wrestling, before dropping an 11-0 major decision to Dominick Coronado of Yorkville (Illinois) Wrestling Club.
He received a bye in his first consolation match, then pinned Huxley Jenkins of Palmer (Ohio) Wrestling by pin in 4:22.
Kodiak Attack’s Garrison Weisner pinned Wood in 1:07 in the fourth round of consolations, earning him a guaranteed finish in the top eight and keeping Wood from a medal.
There were 33 participants in Wood’s age division and weight class.
