MARION — One Geesaman started his high school career with a win on the pitcher’s mound.
His older brother launched the first home run of his career.
Junior Jacob Geesaman blasted a grand slam in the fifth inning, and freshman Wyatt Geesaman drove in the go-ahead run and recorded the win Tuesday as the Jay County High School baseball team defeated Eastbrook, 6-5.
Trailing 3-0 in the third inning, JCHS freshman Ryan Schlechty got the Patriots (1-0) on the board with a bases-loaded walk. Jacob Geesaman then rifled his first career homer over the fence in left field for a 5-3 JCHS lead.
Wyatt Geesaman, who got the win pitching 1 1/3 innings in relief of Chandler Jacks, ripped a double in the sixth inning for his first career hit, driving in Peyton Heniser for the eventual game-winning run.
Jacob Geesaman and Jacks both had two hits for the Patriots.
Jacks struck out seven batters, gave up five hits and five runs — three earned — and walked four in 4 1/3 innings. Jake Myers got the save, striking out two in one inning of work.

Tribe track wins
PITSBURG, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys and girls track teams both finished first Tuesday in a quad meet at Franklin Monroe.
The FRHS girls won 11 events and totaled 105.5 points. Franklin Monroe scored 66 points for second, Bradford had 57.5 for third and Troy Christian was fourth with 11 points.
The Tribe boys scored 108.5 points in their victory. Franklin Monroe was second with 73.5 points, Bradford finished third with 50 and Troy Christian scored eight points for fourth.
Cassidy Martin was the lone dual winner for the FRHS girls, finishing first in the 400-meter dash and 200 dash.
Lauren Gehle (100 hurdles), Kiah Wendel (100 dash), Elise Gehle (1,600 run), Alexis Hobbs (300 hurdles) and Hannah Heitkamp (800 run) also earned victories.
Earning victories for the boys were Tanner Koch (long jump), Tyler Acheson (shot put), Caylen Rockwood (discus), Caleb Martin (100 dash), Travis Sutter (800 run) and Wes Wenning (200 run).

FR baseball halted
DELPHOS, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s baseball team had its game against Delphos St. John’s suspended at 2-2 Tuesday because of darkness after nine innings.
After falling behind 1-0 after the first inning, the Indians (5-3) tied the score with a run in the top of the second. Both teams went scoreless over the next four innings before they each plated a run in the seventh.
Jackson Hobbs and Jacob Homan both had two hits for the Indians, who also had singles from Cade Wendel, Ben Homan, Hunter Boughman and Kyle Schroer.
Hobbs started on the mound, pitching 7 1/3 innings, allowing two runs — one earned — on six hits while striking out 10 and not giving up a walk.
No date has been set to resume the Midwest Athletic Conference tilt.

Eagles second
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s boys and girls track teams both finished second Tuesday in a three-team meet with Blackford and South Adams.
South Adams scored 64 points to win the girls meet. West Jay totaled 60 points for second, and Blackford was third with two points.
The Starfire boys totaled 75 points for their victory, with West Jay (38) second and Blackford (14) third.
Calli Stigleman won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Hallie Fields was first in high jump, Kensey Shannon won long jump and Kenzie Ring was first in 200 hurdles. Renee Omstead, MaKenna Davis, Shannon and Stigleman won the 4x100 relay.
Aaron Funkhouser (200 dash) and Isaac Haffner (200 hurdles) earned the only wins for the WJMS boys.
