Author to speak at JCPL
Taking Note
Jay County Reads at Jay County Public Library is having author Laura Bates speak at 7 p.m. Monday.
Bates is the author of “Shakespeare Saved My Life: 10 Years in Solitary with the Bard.”
The JayCPL Book Club and other interested readers will discuss the book at 6 p.m.
There will also be a coloring party from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday that will feature nature-based pictures.
An Earth Day program for families will be held at 2:45 p.m. April 21. At 6:30 p.m. the same day will be a Throwback Cafe for teens.
Bring an instrument to play or borrow one from the library. Teens can play, sing, start a pickup band or just listen and writers are welcome to bring a tablet. Hot beverages will be available.
Master gardener Betty Drinkut will have a presentation at 6:30 p.m. on April 22.
She will discuss native plants and landscaping, have a slide presentation and show live plants.
Drinkut trained through the Purdue Extension Master Gardener program. More information can be found at https://www.hort.purdue.edu/mg/.
Do-It-Yourself crafts can be made from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 23.
In celebration of Earth Day, anyone attending a program at Jay County Public Library between Monday and April 23 will receive a free tree seedling.
Madison banquet
Madison Township Alumni are inviting all graduates and anyone who attended Madison School to its Madison High School Alumni Banquet at 5 p.m. on May 7, with registration and a social hour beginning at 4 p.m.
The event will be held at the Portland Lions Civic Center, 307 E. 100 North, Portland, which is a change in location.
The cost is $18 and reservations are due by April 29. They may be sent to Dennis Theurer, 16200 Carey Road, Westfield, IN 46074. Please include the names of all guests that will be attending and if any special arrangements need to be made.
New address information for classmates, teachers or coaches may be sent to Connie Bechtol, 408 E. North St., Dunkirk, IN 47336.

In honor of National Library Week, Fort Recovery Public Library is waiving overdue fines up to $5.
Also the book club Novel at Night will meet at 7 p.m. Monday to discuss “The Mountain Between Us” by Charles Martin.
Nature’s Green Nursery will share tips and tricks for spring planting and container gardens at 6:30 p.m. on April 26. The program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
Friends are looking for young men and women to model clothing for the 225 Fashion Show and Tea to be held on June 18 at the Elementary/Middle School Auditeria.
