FORT RECOVERY — Through two innings, it appeared as if the Indians and Cardinals were in for a low-scoring affair.
The game got out of hand in a hurry.
Fort Recovery High School’s baseball team opened Midwest Athletic Conference play Thursday with a 10-0 thrashing of the New Bremen Cardinals in five innings.
The Indians (6-3, 1-0 MAC) led 1-0 after the second inning, before breaking the game open with four runs in the third. They tacked on five more in the bottom of the fourth, and kept the Cardinals from reaching home in the top of the fifth to get the lopsided victory.
Cade Wendel and Hunter Boughman each ripped doubles for the Indians. Jackson Hobbs, Jacob Homan and Will Homan also added hits for the Tribe. Wendel, Hobbs and Jacob Homan had two RBIs each.
Wendel started on the bump for FRHS, tossing four innings, only allowing one hit and striking out three. He notched the win, moving to 2-0. Reese Rogers pitched an inning of relief and fanned each batter he faced.
