Fort Recovery drops two games at Crestview

CONVOY, Ohio — The Fort Recovery High School softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday at Crestview.
The Indians (1-10) lost the first game to the host Knights, 11-0. They dropped game two 16-10 to the Lincolnview Lancers.
Crestview opened the scoring in game one with a run in the first inning before adding two in the second and three in the third. Fort Recovery wasn’t able to keep them off the scoreboard in the fourth inning, as the Knights scored five runs to nearly double their lead.
Meanwhile, Fort Recovery only managed two hits — a double from Chelsea Timmerman and a single from Kasey Vogel.
Devin Post took the loss. She allowed all 11 runs — six of which were earned — on seven hits. She walked four and struck out one.
Fort Recovery got within one run on two separate occasions against Lincolnview, but couldn’t break through and lost in six innings.
Timmerman led all players with four hits. Logan Ranly chipped in with a double and two singles, and Audra Metzger also had a double and a single. Tori Vaughn and Chloe Metzger had two hits apiece.
Timmerman suffered the loss. She allowed 16 runs — 11 earned — on 15 hits and struck out two.
The Tribe also lost 11-1 Friday at Spencerville. Taylor Thien, Whitney Will, Audra Metzger and Post each had hits for the Indians.
Stars sweep Knights
BERNE — South Adams’ softball team earned a doubleheader sweep Saturday against the Norwell Knights.
The Starfires (4-1) scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-5 win in the first game. They jumped ahead 6-1 after two innings in the second game and coasted to a 10-5 victory.
Katelin Augsburger had a double, a single and three RBIs in the first game. Morgan Alberson, Keirstyn Grimm and Casi Evans all had hits as well.
Augsburger notched the win on the mound. She gave up four runs — one earned — on 10 hits in seven innings. She struck out six and didn’t allow a walk.
Maddie Morgan had three hits to pace the Stars in game two. Augsburger had two doubles, and Alberson drove in a pair of runs.
Alberson also recorded the win. She allowed four runs — three earned — on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. She also walked four and struck out three.
Two Stars set records
MINSTER, Ohio — Bailey McIntire and Drew LeFever broke their own school records Saturday at the Minster Memorial Invitational.
The South Adams boys track team finished fourth with 58 points, and the girls totaled 62 points to place sixth.
Minster won both team titles, as the Wildcat boys had 140 points and the girls totaled 162.
McIntire set a new school and meet record in the 3,200 run, winning the race in 9 minutes, 38.49 seconds. He was more than a half second faster than the previous record set in 2013.
LeFever won discus with his school-record throw of 157 feet, 7 inches. He also took first in the shot put with a distance of 50 feet.
For the SAHS girls, Addie Wanner earned the lone victory. She won the 100 hurdles in 16.4 seconds.
Jay loses twice
RICHMOND — Jay County’s softball team lost two games Saturday at the Red Devil Invitational.
The Patriots (0-5) lost the opener to the host Red Devils 11-1, then fell by a 15-4 margin to the Centerville Bulldogs.
McKayla Norris took the loss against the Red Devils. She allowed 11 run son three hits, walking five and striking out one.
Gabby Hart provided the offense, hitting a solo home run during the second inning. She also had a single, as did Kady Finnerty.
In game two, Hart had a double, a single and two RBIs. Chloe Trissel notched her first triple of the season, with Blaize Miller and Gwen Butcher each hitting singles.
Rachel Antrim suffered the loss. She surrendered nine runs on four hits. She struck out one and walked six.
Patriot JV wins two
Jay County’s junior varsity softball team earned two lopsided victories over the Richmond Red Devils on Saturday.
The Patriots won 12-2 and 14-4. Both games lasted five innings.
Shelby Caldwell paced Jay County (3-1) in the first game, going 3-for-4 with a double and two singles. Rhegan Shimp blasted a two-run home run, and Randi Ferguson was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Kaylee Inman picked up the win. She allowed five hits, struck out a half dozen and walked one.
In the second game, Hannah Phillips earned the win, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out five.
Maggie Pryor led the way offensively with three hits and two RBIs. Caldwell notched three more hits, and Ferguson had two hits and scored twice.
Hill 6th at regional
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Halle Hill earned a sixth-place medal Sunday at the USA Gymnastics Level 8 Region 5 meet at Lexington Convention Center.
Hill, an eighth grader at West Jay Middle School, scored a 9.3 on floor exercise to finish sixth. She earned a 9.05 on vault, 8.725 on balance beam and an 8.3 on uneven bars to finish with an all around score of 35.375.
Jay County High School sophomore Courtney Miles was 12th and 15th respectively on beam (8.95) and floor (8.9). She added a career-best 8.75 on bars, and 8.35 on vault for an all around of 34.95, also a new career best.
