Ridgeville man arrested after fatal collision

RIDGEVILLE — A Randolph County man is in jail this morning following a Saturday collision that resulted in the death of a Ridgeville man.
Dion L. Young was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at the intersection of Indiana 28 and Randolph County road 100 West about 9:47 p.m. Saturday. William E. Caylor, Ridgeville, was arrested Sunday in Winchester and is being held in Randolph County Jail on an $8,000 bond for a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, a Level 6 felony.
According to a report from Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, Young, 45, was traveling east on Indiana 28 when a truck traveling north on Randolph County road 100 West failed to yield the right of way. His motorcycle struck the front driver’s side of the truck.
The driver of the truck fled from the scene.
Young was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger, Waynetta R. Whited, 40, was transported to Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She was listed in stable but serious condition.
Young and Whited were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
A tip on social media Sunday indicated that a pickup truck matching the description of the one involved in the accident was parked in the 600 block of North Street in Winchester. Randolph County Sheriff’s Department detectives responded and located Caylor, the owner of the truck.
Police say that during a formal interview, Caylor acknowledged that he was the driver of the truck involved in the accident Saturday. At that time, he was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
Ward Township and Ridgeville first responders, Randolph County EMS, Union City police and state police assisted the sheriff’s department at the scene of the accident.
