SA boys first at Ansonia Relays

ANSONIA, Ohio — The South Adams boys track team finished first Saturday at the Ansonia Tiger Relays.
The Starfires won five events on their way to 88 points. Houston was runner up with 82 points, and Covington was third with 67.
South Adams’ girls team scored 81 points to finish second. Covington won with 95 points, and Ansonia was third with 77 points.
Drew LeFever won both the shot put and discuss events, then helped on the winning 800-meter sprint medley relay with Logan Hicks, Sam Stuber and Paul Neuenschwander.
McGerran Clouser, Wyatt Miller, Daniel Steffen and Bailey McIntire combined for victories in both the 4x800 relay and the distance medley relay.
Marcos Gonzalez teamed with Miller, Steffen and Bailey to finish first in the middle distance medley relay, then helped the winning 4x400 relay team of James Groh, Clouser and Neuenschwander.
For the girls, Addie Wanner won high jump, then joined Olivia Von Gunten, Caroline Kloepper and Ashley LeFever for a victory in the 4x100 relay.
Megan Wynn, Acacia Anderson, Emma Rosswurm and Haley Archer combined to win the 4x200 relay.

AUBURN — The South Adams High School softball team earned two lopsided wins Saturday in a doubleheader sweep of the Lakewood Park Christian Panthers.
South Adams (6-3) won the first game 17-2, then took the second 19-2. Both contests lasted five innings.
Keirstyn Grimm led the Starfires with five hits and five RBIs on the day. She had two doubles and three singles. Morgan Alberson tallied four hits, with Kyla LeFever, Kiera Pinnock and Lexi Dellinger each adding three. Dellinger had a double and drove in six runs, and LeFever totaled four RBIs.
Katelin Augsburger got the win in game one, allowing two runs — one earned — on five hits. She struck out 11 and walked one in five innings.
Anna Nussbaum got her first career victory in the second game. She gave up two runs — one earned — on two hits, while striking out four and not allowing a walk in five innings of work.

LYNN — South Adams’ baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday with the Cambridge City Lincoln Golden Eagles and Randolph Southern Rebels.
The Starfires (5-6) lost the first game to the Golden Eagles 5-1, then bounced back with a 14-0 thumping of the host Rebels.
Corbin Blomeke had two doubles and a single on the day, and Jayden Dull chipped in with three singles and two RBIs. Justin Nussbaum was 4-for-7 with an RBI, three runs and two walks.
Dull took the loss in the first game. He gave up five runs — two earned — on four hits while striking out six and walking four in four innings.
Mark Clary got the win against the Rebels. He pitched four shutout innings, giving up just one hit and walking one while striking out five.
Two win for JC
MUNCIE — Andrew Trewyn and Nathan Heitkamp each won an event Saturday as the Jay County boys track team placed eighth at the Muncie Central Relays.
Anderson won the team title with a score of 108.5 points. Huntington North was second with 85, edging third-place Kokomo by 2.5 points.
The Patriots scored 35.5 points.
Trewyn won the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 4 inches, an inch more than Gino Taylor of Muncie Central.
Heitkamp won the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 5.5 inches.
Aaron Neal was sixth in long jump (18 feet, 7.25 inches) and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (45.69 seconds).
Isaac Robbins also earned a top-eight finish, finishing one spot behind Neal in the 300 hurdles in 46.38 seconds.
