The Jay County High School boys golf team picked up a pair of victories Tuesday in a three-team match at Portland Golf Club.
The Patriots scored a 173 to finish ahead of Allen County Athletic Conference opponents South Adams (192) and Adams Central (209).
Jay County junior Jay Houck earned match medalist honors by shooting a 41. Collin Haines posted the Patriots’ No. 2 score with a 43. Kyler Hudson birdied the par-3 13th hole on his way to a 44, and Graham Haines completed the Patriots’ team score with a 45.
Nick Hayden also competed for JCHS, and he shot 48.
Jacob Rife posted a 46 for the best South Adams score. David Muselman was one stroke behind, and Dexter Miller was third on the team with a 48. Chris Beitler rounded out the team score with a 51.
Luke Morehouse also played for the Starfires, and his 71 did not factor into the team score.

Tennis sweeps UC
UNION CITY — Jay County’s girls tennis team bounced back from its second conference loss of the season to shut out sectional rival Union City on Tuesday, 5-0.
At No. 1 singles, JCHS senior Kyra Braun defeated Katie Rasmiller 6-4, 6-0. Shelby McClain didn’t lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Emalee Bocanegra at No. 2 singles, and at No. 3 singles Megan Johnson beat Tiffany Edwards 6-3, 6-0.
The Patriots’ No. 1 doubles team of Abby Saxman and Abby Reier earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Emily Cline and Allie Conklin. At No. 2 doubles, Audrey Dirksen and Kayla Dirksen defeated Tiffany Reagan and Sydney Ralston 6-0 6-2.
With the win, Jay County moved to 2-4 on the season.
The Patriots’ junior varsity team also won, 3-0. Katy Hamilton and Sydney Baughman both earned singles victories. Emily Reier and Betsy Muhlenkamp won their doubles matches.

Big inning downs FR
COLDWATER, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team lost its eighth straight game Tuesday, 13-3 to the Coldwater Cavaliers in five innings.
Fort Recovery (1-14, 0-4 Midwest Athletic Conference) trailed 5-0 after four innings before scoring three runs in the top of the fifth. But Coldwater (5-11, 2-1 MAC) scored eight runs in the bottom half of the frame for the run-rule victory.
Tori Vaughn had two doubles, one RBI and a walk to lead the FRHS offense. Taylor Grisez also had an RBI. Chelsea Timmerman had the only other hit for the Tribe.
Timmerman suffered the loss, allowing 10 runs — nine earned — on 12 hits. She struck out six and walked two in four innings of work.

Tribe JV falls

COLDWATER, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team lost in walk-off fashion, 4-3 to the Coldwater Cavaliers on Tuesday.
Fort Recovery (1-8) scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game, 3-3, but Coldwater got the win with a run in the home half of the frame.
Ethan Schoen suffered the loss. He allowed two runs on two hits and walked two in 2 2/3 innings. Evan Post started, lasting 4 1/3 inning, allowing two runs on two hits and giving up seven walks.
Post was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and a run. Davis Will had a hit and scored twice.

Chiefs top Titans
MUNCIE — East Jay’s boys and girls track teams both defeated the Muncie Northside Titans on Monday.
The EJMS boys won 71-29, and the girls earned a 69-31 victory.
Jackson Lyons, Logan Duran and Mitchell Winner both all a pair of events for the boys. Lyons was first in the 110-meter hurdles and the shot put. Duran won the 200 dash and long jump, and Winner finished first in the 1,600 and 800 runs.
Braden McIntire earned the other individual victory, finishing first in the 400 dash.
MaCuly LeMaster, McIntire, Lyons and Duran combined to win the 4x100 relay, and Chandler Bush, Dylan Knapschafer, Duran and McIntire teamed for a victory in the 4x400 relay.
For the East Jay girls, Miranda Alig, Ashlyn Dow and Kassidy Fennig all won two individual events. Alig finished first in the 1,600 and 800 runs, Dow won the 400 and 200 sprints, and Fennig was first in the shot put and discus.
Jocelyn Reed, Shea Bailey, Cheyenne Liette and Natalie Miles joined to win the 4x100 relay, with Grace Saxman, Dow, Liette and Miles teaming for a win in the 4x400 relay.

WJ track splits
SELMA — The West Jay Middle School track teams split a meet with Selma on Tuesday.
The WJMS girls won 82-27, and the boys fell 73-36.
Calli Stigleman won two races and helped a first-place relay team. She was victorious in both the 100-meter dash and 200 dash, and also joined Hallie Fields, Renee Omstead and Kensey Shannon to win the 4x100 relay.
Seven others earned single victories for the Eagle girls, including Sophia Fugiett (1,600 run), Madison Hammers (800 run), Allison Jobe (shot put), Kenzie Ring (200 hurdles), Omstead (400 dash), Fields (high jump) and Shannon (long jump).
Lillian Clemmons, Lexus Harding, Fugiett and Omstead combined for a victory in the 4x400 relay.
Isaac Haffner won a pair of events for the WJMS boys. He was first in both the 110 hurdles and 200 hurdles. Drew Powers and Cody Bivens also claimed individual victories in the 100 dash and 1,600 run respectively.
