JCPL to host programs

Taking Note

Check out all the activities taking place at Jay County Public Library in May.
A Star Wars DIY coloring and craft event will be held anytime between 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the children’s area.
Other special programs in May will include “What’s That Mean? Understanding and Decoding Nutrition Labels” at 5 p.m. on May 23. The program will be presented by Julayne Ross of Jay County Hospital.
Also Adult Crafts and Coloring will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 26. Make unique art pieces from cardboard rolls or just color.
Preschool playtime will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday and again on May 9 and 16.
Story time will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday and again on May 10 and 17 and also at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 and 12.
Kids can stop if for the Lego Brick Free Build anytime between 2:30 and 4 p.m. on Tuesday and on May 10 and 17. Legos can be played with all day on May 24 and 31.
Work Out Wednesday for kids and families will be from 6 to 7 p.m. on May 18 and 25.
Clubs meeting in May will include the Cookbook Club at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, May 9, with the theme “Potluck;” JayCPL Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 16, to continue their series on Indiana authors by discussing “Ashfall” by Mike Mullins; and Hook & Needles Club will meet between 5 and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24. Bring supplies and ideas to share or items to brag on.
An expo will be held to help those wanting to get a jumpstart on the Summer Challenge to be held in May and June at the library. This year’s challenge will focus on health and wellness.
A Summer Challenge Mini Expo will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on May 16 to explore day camps, fitness classes, recreation and learning activities and to sign up for the Summer Challenge.
Registration will also take place any time after May 16 at the library and activity cards can be picked up at that time. Four different activity cards need to be completed by July 2 to meet the challenge.
Books were donated to the library, in memory of Jennifer Goss-Ritchie, by Gary and Barbara Street.

“Vitamin N: the essential guide to a Nature-Rich Life” by Richard Louv; “Planting in a Post-Wild World: Designing Plant Communities for Resilient Landscapes” by Thomas Rainier and Claudia West; “Living Bird: 100 Years of Listening to Nature” by Gerrit Vyn; “Bee Friendly Garden: Design an abundant, flower-filled yard that nurtures bees and supports biodiversity” by Kate Frey and Gretchen LeBuhn.
Cheryl Lucas of JCPL will hold a Senior Lunch & Learn session at 11:30 a.m. on May 5 at John Jay Center for Learning for those 55 and older.
The session “Your Library Online” will discuss the library’s web page and databases and show how to use the Evergreen Indiana catalog.

Poling alumni
The Poling High School Alumni Banquet will be held on May 7 in the fellowship building at Union Chapel, 6200 N. 375 West, Bryant.
Doors will open at 4 p.m. and the meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $10 and reservations can be mailed to Max Blowers, 6128 N. 150 West, Bryant, IN?47326.

Rainbow Bottom tour
Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva will host a guided tour of Rainbow Bottom from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Visitors can meet at the Limberlost Visitor Center and drive to Limberlost County Park to hike Rainbow Bend Park.
