Indians snap losing streak

ST. MARYS, Ohio — It took extra innings, but the losing streak is over.
The Fort Recovery High School softball team scored five runs in the top of the 10th inning Friday and held off a rally in the bottom of the frame for an 8-6 victory over the St. Marys Memorial Roughriders.
It snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Indians, who move to 2-14 on the season.
Whitney Will and Emily Hart hit back-to-back singles to break the 3-3 tie in the 10th inning. Hannah Knapke followed with an RBI groundout that also scored Will, and Chelsea Timmerman singled to bring Hart home for the fifth run of the frame.
Devin Post and Will both had three hits to make up nearly half of the Indians’ total of 13. Tori Vaughn and Timmerman added two hits, with Post, Hart and Knapke tallying two RBIs each.
Timmerman got the win, going all 10 innings while scattering eight hits. She allowed six runs — four earned — with 11 strikeouts and two walks.

Tribe takes two
DELPHOS, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s baseball team earned two wins Friday against the Delphos St. John’s Blue Jays.
The first game was a 3-2 victory in 11 innings, which was a continuation from an April 12 game that was delayed in the ninth inning because of darkness.
Game two, a non-conference tilt, was a 15-5, six-inning win for the Indians, who move to 13-5 (3-2 Midwest Athletic Conference).

Hunter Boughman hit a single to center field in the top of the 11th inning of game one to score Ben Homan as the go-ahead run.
Cade Wendel earned the win in relief, pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up four hits, striking out six and walking one.
In the second game, Nick Thwaits led the offensive effort with four hits. Jackson Hobbs, Kyle Schroer, Homan and Boughman each had two hits. Schroer and Boughman both had three RBIs.
Wendel again got the win. He allowed two hits and struck out two in two scoreless innings, before giving way to Reese Rogers. He allowed five runs — four earned — on six hits, walked four and struck out four in four innings.

Stars top Tigers
BLUFFTON — The South Adams softball team defeated the Bluffton Tigers by a score of 9-2 on Friday in a game that was picked up from April 21.
Play resumed with one out in the top of the fourth inning and South Adams ahead 7-2. The Starfires tacked on two more in the top of the fifth and kept the home team off the scoreboard.
Tori Raugh, Isabella Ramirez and Madison Morgan each had two singles, with Raugh driving in a pair of runs. Casi Evans had a triple, a single and one walk.
Abby Myers, Ramirez and Evans each scored twice.
Katelin Augsburger recorded the win, scattering three hits over seven innings while giving up two earned runs. She struck out a dozen and walked three.
