Syringe possession
A Dunkirk man was sentenced recently in Jay Superior Court.
Jerry D. Davis, 33, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced July 26 to one year in Jay County Jail to be served consecutive with previous sentences. He was given 278 days credit for 139 served. Davis was fined $100 and assessed $183 in court costs.
Robert L. Duff, 28, also pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced July 21 to two years in Jay County Jail to be served consecutive to another felony sentence. All but nine months are suspended, and Duff was given eight days credit for four days served. He was assessed $183 in court costs and ordered to attend and pay $150 for “Moral Recognition Therapy.” He was placed on formal probation for 15 months. As part of a plea agreement, a charge of possession of a narcotic drug was dismissed.

A Portland woman was sentenced recently in Jay Circuit Court.
Nicole Mikel, 36, pleaded guilty to dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony. She was sentenced July 26 to five years in Indiana Department of Correction, and given credit for time served from March 11, 2016. She was assessed $183 in court costs and ordered to pay an alcohol and drug countermeasures fee of $200
As part of a plea agreement, charges of unlawful possession of syringe, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of chemical reagents or precursors with intent to manufacture a controlled substance were dismissed.
