Arts Place to offer harp, piano, dance

The MusicWorks program at Arts Place in Portland has a new instructor.
Emily Goins will give harp and piano lessons. She is from Brownwood, Texas and received an undergraduate degree from Ball State University with a major in harp performance in 2014 and a Master of Music degree in harp performance from the University of Michigan in 2015.
Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St., is accepting registrations for harp lessons to begin on Aug. 29 and will continue weekly through May.
Registration forms and brochures are available at Arts Place, online at artsland.org or by calling (260) 726-4809. The priority registration deadline is Aug. 15 and scholarships are available based on financial need.
Belly dancing classes will be offered at Arts Place by instructor Lori Naseelah.
Classes will begin on Aug. 30 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and continue for six weeks.
Naseelah will guide student through the basic movements and drills to retrain the body to move in a more fluid manner, while tying in the traditions and folklore of belly dance.

National honor
Kelsey L. Burden, a Jay County High School student, recently became a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.
The Society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment.
“We aim to help students like Kelsey build on their academic success by connecting them with unique learning experiences and resources to help prepare them for college and meaningful careers,” said NSHSS President James W. Lewis.
Active seminars
LifeStream Services will host a series of Active Senior Seminars at two Muncie locations.
The first series will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. the third Monday of each month at Maring-Hunt Library, 2005 S. High St.
The first “All About LifeStream,” will discuss the variety of programs and services LifeStream Services has to offer in East Central Indiana.

The next series of seminars will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at Forest Park Senior Center, 2517 W. 8th St.
The first “Senior Safety” will be held on Aug. 26 and will feature Delaware County Sheriff Ray Dudley discussing and answering questions on how to stay safe.
Other seminars will be held on Sept. 30 and Oct. 28.
