CELINA — The Indians had a strong start to the season.
Now they’re continuing to slide.
The Fort Recovery High School boys golf team lost to the St. Henry Redskins 167-189 on Thursday at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
It was the third consecutive loss in dual matches for the Indians (6-4, 0-2 Midwest Athletic Conference), who won six of their first seven matches.
Grant Knapke led the Indians with a 7-over-par 43, including making par on three holes. Austin Pohl also converted par three times on his way to a 46. Austin Faller and Micaiah Cox had matching scores of 50 to complete the Tribe’s team total.
Calvin Rammel and Aaron Lochtefeld also competed for the Indians, and they shot a 51 and 71 respectively.
St. Henry’s Kyle Naumann was the match medalist with a 38.
Tribe drops MAC opener
CELINA — The Fort Recovery High School girls golf team lost its conference opener on Thursday, 200-254, to the St. Henry Redskins at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Emily Bruns shot a 57 to lead the Indians from the No. 2 spot. Kristen Keller was second on the team with 61, and Sophie Timmerman was third with 67. Elli Keller finished with a 69 to complete the Indians’ team score.
Eryn Litmer also competed for Fort Recovery, and she shot a 71.
Carina Clune of St. Henry was the match medalist with a 45.
SA moves to 2-0
BERNE — The South Adams High School volleyball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a sweep of the Canterbury Cavaliers, 25-13, 25-21, 25-15.
Juniors Madi Wurster and Addie Wanner led the Starfires offensively, totaling 11 and 10 kills respectively. Wanner also tallied a pair of blocks and three aces, while Wurster recorded four digs.
Morgan Alberson had eight kills to go with her seven digs and three aces, and Caralie Farlow notched a team-high 13 digs. Julia Grabau had 26 assists and a team-high five aces.
The South Adams junior varsity team also picked up its second victory of the season with a 25-13, 25-9 win.
Shaelynn Bowman led with five kills, and Isabella Bailey had five assists and four digs. Lydia Loshe chipped in with six assists and four kills, and Hannah Dull notched seven digs and three aces.
