Starfire volleyball wins North Miami silver pool

DENVER — The Starfires dropped their first match to the third-ranked team in the state.
They rebounded by winning the silver pool.
South Adams High School’s volleyball team moved to 5-1 on the season by winning the silver pool Saturday at the North Miami Invitational.
The Starfires lost to Class 2A No. 3 Rochester 25-15, 25-21, before rattling off three straight victories. South Adams beat Lakeland (25-14, 25-14), Eastbrook (25-11, 25-6) and Winamac (25-12, 25-16).
Junior Madi Wurster led the Starfire offense with 26 kills. She also notched four digs and three aces. Senior Morgan Alberson was second on the team with 20 kills, and she also had 17 digs and five assists.
Caralie Farlow chipped in with 11 kills, six digs and two aces, with Addie Wanner totaling eight kills.
Julia Grabau racked up 38 assists in four matches.

SA drops two
FORT WAYNE — The South Adams boys tennis team dropped both matches of the Wayne/South Side Invitational on Saturday at Sweeney Park.
The Starfires (0-2) lost 3-2 to the host Wayne Generals, before falling 3-1 to the New Haven Bulldogs. The No. 2 singles match against New Haven was canceled because of inclement weather.
At No. 1 singles, SAHS junior David Muselman defeated Wayne’s Thomas Wartenberg 6-0, 6-0, and knocked off New Haven’s Sam Smith by the same score.
Aidan Bahre outlasted Isaac Romary of Wayne 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 12-10, and was beating Justin Cummings of New Haven before weather stepped in.
At No. 3 singles, Zach Teeple fell to Wayne’s Roberto Medina 6-4, 6-1, and lost to Jacob Garcia of New Haven 6-4, 6-2. The South Adams No. 1 doubles team of Jamison Kistler and Paul Stuckey lost to Jacob Moreno and Ben Dimino fo Wayne 6-2, 6-3. They also lost to New Haven’s Lucas Garcia and Angel Defederico, but final scores were not provided.
