Last week vs. Delta: Jay County scored on the third play from scrimmage, an 85-yard pass from Holton Hill to Bryan Stancliffe. The Patriot offense wasn’t able to get much going after that in a 33-6 loss to the Delta Eagles. Delta quarterback Tanner Lambert threw for two touchdowns and ran for another.
Season leaders: Passing — Holton Hill – 5-for-10 for 130 yards and one touchdown. Rushing — Ryan Schlechty – six carries for eight yards. Receiving — Bryan Stancliffe – two receptions for 90 yards and one touchdown. Defense — Ethan Theurer – 13 tackles, one tackle for loss, Brandt Pearson – two sacks.
Blackford Bruins
Hartford City, 0-1
Coach: Randy Sehy, first year
Conference: Central Indiana
Last week at Fremont: A pair of touchdowns in the third quarter gave the Fremont Eagles a 28-18 victory over the?Blackford Bruins, after the?Bruins scored twice in the second quarter to take an 18-16 advantage. Jacob Deavers had 82 yards rushing and one touchdown for Blackford, and Terrance Wilson added 79 yards and a score.
Season leaders: Passing — Blaine Riddle – 1-of-5 for 15 yards and two interceptions. Rushing — Jacob Deavers – five carries for 82 yards and one touchdown. Receiving — Dylan Shroyer – one catch for 15 yards. Defense — Jake Wells – 11 tackles, Melvin Hernandez and Deavers – one sack each.
Last season: Sophomore Cole Stigleman and senior Drew Huffman each scored three times as Jay County defeated Blackford 46-21. Stigleman rushed for 144 yards on 13 carries, and Huffman added 80 yards on 10 carries. Holton Hill threw two touchdown passes, one each to Aaron?Neal and Stigleman.
Game notes: This is the 44th meeting all time between Jay County and Blackford, with the Patriots holding a commanding 29-14 advantage, including wins in each of the last seven meetings ... Blackford has lost 14 straight games with its last win a 17-14 overtime victory against Elwood on Oct. 17, 2014 ... The Blackford student council and other student groups will be collecting bottled water and monetary donations to help support Kokomo residents who were affected by Wednesday’s severe weather.
