CELINA, Ohio — The Indians mostly stayed away from big numbers.
It resulted in their second win in conference play.
All four scoring players shot 49 or better Monday as the Fort Recovery High School boys golf team defeated the Marion Local Flyers 191-205 at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Austin Faller made par three times on his way to a team-low 46.
Micaiah Cox had two pars as he was one stroke behind Faller, shooting 47.
Harrison Kaup and Austin Pohl had matching scores of 49 to complete the team total for Fort Recovery (2-3 Midwest Athletic Conference).
Also competing for the Indians were Grant Knapke and Calvin Rammel, who had scores of 50 and 57 respectively.
Marion Local’s Collin Fleck was the match medalist with a 43.
JC girls lose
ANDERSON — Jay County’s girls golf team fell to 4-5 on the season with a 190-219 loss Monday to Anderson at Grandview Golf Course.
Senior Kendra Dodd led Jay County with a 51, and classmate Carlie Wickey was second on the team with a 54.
Madison Brown was close behind, finishing with a 55, and Cassie Reno completed the Patriots’ team score with a 59.
Sierra Caster and Madalyn Garringer also competed, and they had scores of 65 and 67 respectively.
Flyers edge Tribe
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls golf team fell to 0-2 in MAC play on Monday with a 234-239 loss to the Marion Local Flyers at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Emily Bruns paced Fort Recovery with a 51, and Elli Keller was second on the team with a 56.
Kristen Keller and Erin Litmer shot a 65 and 67 respectively to round out the Indians’ team score.
Sophie Timmerman and Lydia Schmitz also competed, with Timmerman carding a 72 and Schmitz turning in a 79.
SA blasts Archers
BERNE — The South Adams volleyball team swept the visiting Fort Wayne South Side Archers on Monday, 25-14, 25-9, 25-9.
Caralie Farlow led the way for the Starfires, posting team highs in both kills (seven) and digs (six). She also had a pair of aces.
Addie Wanner and Madi Wurster, both juniors, were next with five kills, and Wurster chipped in with three aces.
Julia Grabau led South Adams (7-2) in both assists (21) and aces (nine), while also contributing five digs. Morgan Alberson totaled four kills, four digs and two aces as well.
South Adams’ junior varsity team also earned a sweep, 25-3, 25-3.
Lydia Loshe tallied four aces and two kills, Kyle Bixler notched three aces and Sidney Schwartz recorded four assists.
Jay beats Eagles
CONVERSE — The Jay County junior varsity football team evened its record Monday, defeating the host Oak Hill Golden Eagles 28-14.
The Patriots (1-1) scored twice through the air, once on a touchdown pass from Parker Grimes to Caleb Webster and again on a Gabe Faulkner toss to Noah Harris. Trey Castillo added a rushing touchdown for Jay County.
Mitchell Frasher got in on the scoring as well, scooping a loose ball for a fumble recovery and returning it for a touchdown.
Collin Haines had a two-point conversion as well.
Patriots fall, 16-8
HARTFORD CITY — Jay County’s freshman football team dropped a 16-8 game Monday to the host Blackford Bruins.
Gabe Link led the Patriots (0-2) with 67 rushing yards and the team’s only touchdown. Marcos Garcia and Garrett Mann added 49 and 31 yards respectively on the ground.
Link tossed for 30 yards on completions to Logan Duran, who also caught a two-point conversion pass from Link.
Zakk Atkins and Link led the Jay County defense with six tackles each. Trevon Vore and Derrick Potter both had five stops.
