Saturday at Richmond: Jay County had potential game-tying free throws and a desperation 3-pointer fall short in a 43-42 loss to the Richmond Red Devils. Senior Jay Houck led the Patriots for the second consecutive game, totaling 15 points and seven rebounds. Jason Schlosser had 10 points in back-to-back contests.

Tuesday at Garrett: Four players scored in double figures as Woodlan beat former conference opponent Garrett, 70-47. Austin Fancher led the Warriors with 17 points, and Aaron Hahn was second with 15. Josh Gerig hauled in eight rebounds, while Ah’lan Howard and TreVon McCarter had a dozen points apiece.

Last season: Then-junior Jay Houck and seniors Kyler Carvel and Adam Dirksen combined to score 39 points in leading the Patriots to a 62-47 victory over the Warriors. Houck led the way with 17 points, Carvel added a dozen and Dirksen had 10 to go with his 10 rebounds and five blocks.

Game notes: This is the third meeting all-time between Jay County and Woodlan, and the Patriots have won each of the previous two. This is also the Allen County Athletic Conference opener for both squads ... Jay County is winless through its first two games for the first time since the 2001-02 season, which is the last time the Patriots were also 0-3 to begin the year ...
