Stockton fourth in contest

A Portland student’s essay was chosen among hundreds and earned her class a trip to Indianapolis.

Ella Stockton, a fourth grade student in Mrs. Sue Lechlitner’s class at General Shanks Elementary, placed fourth in the Indiana Statehood Day Essay Contest for the Bicentennial year. The top four winners were chosen out of 700 essays submitted.

Stockton, Lechlitner and the rest of her class will travel to Indianapolis on Friday for her to accept her award and attend Statehood Day ceremonies at the Indiana Historical Society.

Stockton is the daughter of Kyle and Melanie Stockton and the granddaughter of Joe and Patricia Brockman and Steve and Sheryl Stockton, all of Portland.  



Fit Kid Club

The Arthur &?Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion in Berne will offer a nutrition and physical activity education program in January for children in grade two through six.

Fit Kid Club will meet from 3:15 to 4 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday begin Jan. 10 and will continue through Feb. 2.

The program will include a snack, fun activites and a pool party upon completion of the program.

The cost is $40 and transportation will be provided from South Adams Schools.

Registration deadline is Dec. 20 and forms are available at the Pavilion desk at 1201 Emmental Drive in Berne. For more information, call (260) 589-4496.



Family Day

Jay County Historical Society Museum, 903 E. Main St., will have Family Day from 1 to 4  p.m. Sunday. There will be crafts, a scavenger hunt, candle dipping and a visit from Santa Claus.
