FORT RECOVERY — The Indians spent three quarters building a double-digit lead.

It almost slipped away in the final frame.

The Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team survived a late push by the New Knoxville Rangers in a 38-33 victory Thursday at Fort Site Fieldhouse.

Fort Recovery (3-0, 1-0 Midwest Athletic Conference) led 38-22 with 4 minutes, 42 seconds, left in the game, but weren’t able to score the rest of the way. New Knoxville (1-4, 0-1 MAC) scored the next 11 points to cut the deficit to single digits. The Indians held off the surge to keep their perfect record in tact.

Whitney Will was the lone Indian to reach double figures as she scored 10 points while adding a team-high eight rebounds. Carley Stone followed with eight points, and Grace Thien had six points. Kiah Wendel and Jocelyn Kaiser totaled five points each.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 39-27. Chloe Showalter and Olivia Patch shared the game-high with 14 points, and Val Muhlenkamp contributed on the glass with 10 rebounds. Brooke Kahlig recorded six points.



Stars burn Vikings

BERNE — The South Adams boys and girls swim teams both cruised to victories over Huntington North on Thursday.

The girls didn’t lose an event in moving to 6-0 with a 118-58 win, while the boys improved to 2-2 with a 100-57 defeat of the Vikings.

Ashley LeFever, Ashton Klopp and Brette Klopp each finished first in a pair of events. LeFever won the 50-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly, Ashton Klopp picked up victories in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle, and Brette Klopp placed first in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Olivia Von Gunten (500 freestyle), Isabel Von Gunten (diving) and Audrey Burson (100 breaststroke) each won their respective events. The Starfires also won all three relays.

Zach Teeple and Zach Colpaert were double winners for the SAHS boys. Teeple out-touched the competition in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke while Colpaert won the 50 and 100 freestyle events.

South Adams swept the relays as well.



SA grounds Jets

MONROE — Lexi Dellinger poured in 25 points as the South Adams girls basketball team blasted the Adams Central Jets on Thursday, 54-26.

The Starfires (4-5, 2-1 Allen County Athletic Conference) led 18-0 after the first quarter, and the Jets (0-8, 0-3 ACAC) simply couldn’t catch up. South Adams led 27-7 at half, and 29-13 heading into the fourth quarter.

Dellinger did most of her damage up close, as she made six field goals, one from long range, and was 10-for-12 from the free-throw line. Calyssa Lehman chipped in 11 points and Madi Wurster notched 10.

South Adams’ junior varsity team lost in overtime, 30-27. Lydia Loshe led the Stars with 11 points, and Taylor Augsburger added six. Emilee Myers and Ally Weaver finished with four points each.



EJ remains perfect

The East Jay Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team pushed its unbeaten record to 6-0 Thursday with a 28-20 victory over Bluffton.

The Chiefs’ eighth grade squad lost, 45-38.

Gavin Muhlenkamp had 16 points to pace the EJMS seventh grade team, which moves to 3-0 in Allen County Athletic Conference play. Dylan Knapschafer and Adam Muhlenkamp had four points each, while Ethan Dirksen and Gavin Myers tallied two points apiece.

Bailey Cox and Landon Grimes both scored 13 points for the eighth grade Chiefs, who got six points from Nick Fields, four from Brody Auker and two points from Brian Zhang.



Tigers sweep Chiefs

BLUFFTON — East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams both fell to the Bluffton Tigers on Thursday.

The eighth grade squad lost in overtime, 32-28, while the EJMS seventh graders fell 19-18.

Natalie Miles led the eighth grade Chiefs in the losing effort with eight points. Grace Saxman, Pacie Denney and Aubrey Schwieterman had six points each.

Madison Dirksen scored seven points to lead East Jay. Rachel Muhlenkamp chipped in four points while Jayden Claytor added three. Heaven Hambrock and Andrea Jutte scored two points apiece.



Schmitz leads FR

FORT RECOVERY — Clay Schmitz poured in 20 points and two other players reached double figures as the FRMS eighth grade boys basketball team beat New Knoxville, 60-23.

The seventh grade Indians fell to the Rangers, 36-21.

Riley Will tallied 11 points and Derek Jutte scored 10 to support Schmitz. Ryne Post recorded six points while Regan Martin and Russel Gehle added five points apiece.

Riley Hiser and Logan Homan had six points each in the loss for the Tribe seventh graders. Owen Jutte tallied three points, and Sam DuHamel, Peyton Brunswick and Caleb Evers contributed two points each.
