Cori Stone was seeded second by 2.4 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly behind Abbey Marshall of Versailles.
That was nearly the margin of victory Stone had in record-breaking fashion.
Stone, a Fort Recovery High School senior, set a new meet and school record Saturday at the Coldwater Invitational held at Jay County. She finished with a time of 1 minute, 2.35 seconds, beating her previous school and meet records of 1:02.7 and 1:03.16 respectively. Marshall was second in 1:04.04.
Fort Recovery’s girls scored 117 points to finish runner-up to Versailles in the seven-team meet. The Tigers scored 148 points for the win, and the Minster Wildcats were third with 106 points.
The Tribe boys were last out of six teams with 38 points. Versailles was first with 148 points, Minster totaled 106 for second and New Bremen placed third with 74.
Stone was also second in the 200 freestyle, and joined Cassy Martin, Sophie Timmerman and Alexis Bubp to win the 400 freestyle relay in 2:55.21).
Martin (100 backstroke – 1:06.7) and Timmerman (500 freestyle – 5:57) also earned victories for the Indians.
Alexis Bubp was second and third respectively in the 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle races and Rachel Kaup added a third place in the 100 backstroke. Stone (200 freestyle) and Martin (200 individual medley) also earned a pair of runner-up finishes.
The 200 medley relay team of Martin, Timmerman, Stone and Bubp were second, with Rachel Kaup, Faith Hull, Trisha Thien and Payton Tobe teaming to place sixth in the 200 freestyle relay.
Harrison Kaup and Owen Sheridan earned top-eight finishes for the FRHS boys. Kaup was fourth in the 50 freestyle and Sheridan finished seventh in the 100 freestyle.
The quartet of Noah Lennartz, Nolan Thobe, Kaup and Sheridan placed third in the 400 freestyle relay, fourth in the 200 freestyle relay and seventh in the 200 medley relay.
