FR girls fall to Rangers

FORT RECOVERY — The rally fell short.
The Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team lost for just the fourth time this season as the Indians weren’t able to complete a comeback in a 33-30 loss Thursday to the New Knoxville Rangers.
Fort Recovery (15-4, 6-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) fell behind 7-6 after the opening quarter. Both teams struggled offensively during the second, combining for just eight points. New Knoxville (13-8, 6-2 MAC) held a 5-3 advantage in the quarter though for a 12-9 lead at half.
The Indians outscored the Rangers 9-7 in the third quarter but trailed 33-25 with 26 seconds to play.
Whitney Will scored a game-high 12 points to lead the Indians. Wendel was second on the team with seven points, and Carley Stone added six. Jocelyn Kaiser tallied four points.
Kendra Siefring, who averages 11.1 points per game, was held to just one on Thursday. Grace Thien (9.8 PPG) was scoreless, as she and Siefring combined to go 0-for-13 from the field.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also lost, 39-27.
Aleigha Jenkins and Brooke Gaerke led the Indians (6-12) with nine and eight points respectively. Gaerke also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Chiefs win two
BERNE — East Jay’s wrestling team earned a pair of victories Thursday in a double-dual meet with South Adams and Woodlan.
The Chiefs defeated the host Starfires 66-24, then beat the Woodlan Warriors 63-21.
Blayne Daniels, Brian Newman, Jackson Lyons, Braden McIntire, Mason Winner, Garrett Mann, Dakota Lairson and Ethan Corwin were all 2-0 on the day.
Dyllan Garringer, Dawson Hundley, Zakk Atkins, Derrick Allen and Levi Peterson all finished with one win and one loss. Lita Chowning and Zack Twigg lost both of their matches.
Eagles 1-2
HARTFORD CITY — West Jay’s wrestling team went 1-2 Thursday in a triple dual at Blackford.
The Eagles (1-3) fell to the host Bruins 21-6 and the Randolph Southern Rebels 15-9, before ending the night with an 18-12 victory over the Muncie Northside Titans.
Carter Mitchell won all three of his matches. Sean Ashley, Nevaeh Cox and Draiden Arnold also earned a single victory.
Mitchell also earned two wins in exhibition matches. Ashley and Arnold had exhibition victories as well.
WJ 6th win
DUNKIRK — The sixth grade boys and girls basketball teams at West Jay both picked up victories over the Blackford Bruins on Thursday.
West Jay’s girls won 27-13, and the boys squad was victorious 35-30.
Isabelle Rogers had a game-high 14 points to lead the West Jay girls. Lizzy Dollar contributed seven points and Kaelyn Denny added six points.
Quinn Faulkner led the way for the Eagle boys, exploding for team-leading 27 points.
Camdin Harrison tallied four points in support, with Nick Street and Kess McBride scoring three and one point respectively.
