Fort Recovery boys seeded third in tourney

COLUMBUS — The Tribe will be the No. 3 seed.
In the OHSAA boys basketball tournament draw held Sunday, Fort Recovery was seeded third in the Division IV Wapakoneta District tournament.
The Indians (13-5) play in the sectional championship at 8 p.m. Feb. 26 at Allen East in Herrod against the winner of the Feb. 23 game between No. 5 seed Upper Scioto Valley and No. 11 Waynesfield-Goshen.
No. 1 seed Lima Perry meets the winner of eighth-seeded Lima Temple Christian and Ridgemont at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 26 in the sectional championship. The winner of each of those title games meets in the first regional final at 6:15 p.m. March 1 at Wapakoneta.
The bottom half of the bracket pits No. 7 Ada against No. 12 Dola Hardin Northern at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 23 at Coldwater, with the winner meeting second-seeded St. Henry at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 26.
At 8 p.m. Feb. 26, No. 4 seed Minster will play the winner of the Feb. 23 game between No. 6 Ada and No. 10 New Bremen. The winners of those sectional championship games meet in the second district semifinal at 8 p.m. March 1.
The district championship is slated for 7 p.m. March 7 at Wapakoneta.

Patriots fifth
MARION — Karlie Bullard set new career bests on every event Saturday as the Jay County High School gymnastics team finished fifth at the Marion Invitational.
Homestead won the five-team meet with 106.351 points. McCutcheon scored 103.025 to finish second, and Huntington North was third with 101.125 points.
Jay County scored 95.66 points.
Bullard scored 8.0 or above on two events, doing so on vault (8.35) and floor exercise (8.075). She also set new career marks on balance beam (7.65) and uneven bars (7.65) for an all-around score of 31.675.
Senior Miranda Hibbard had a career best on the beam with an 7.675, helping her also earn a new high of 30.775 all around.
Riley Leavell’s 7.375 was a new personal best as well. And she added an 8.025 on vault.
Junior Maddie Strausburg posted team-highs on vault (8.425), beam (8.3) and floor (8.75) to lead the squad with a 32.475 all around.

Wendel leads Tribe
NEW MADISON, Ohio — Kiah Wendel scored four of her team-high 14 points in overtime Saturday as the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team rallied to beat the Tri-Village Patriots 52-47.
Wendel scored five points in the final four minutes to help Fort Recovery (16-4) erase an eight-point deficit and send the game into overtime.

Grace Thien, who had a 3-pointer in both the fourth quarter and overtime, was second on the team with 12 points, all coming from long range. Kendra Siefring followed with nine points, Whitney Will tallied eight and Carley Stone added five.
The Patriots’ Allie Downing led all players with 22 points.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team fell to 6-13 with a 31-17 loss.
Chloe Metzger led the Indians with eight points and Claire Metzger chipped in with five.

Four games
ANSONIA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys basketball team pushed its win streak to four games Saturday with a 59-42 victory over the Ansonia Tigers.
A strong second quarter helped the Indians (13-5) to a 27-14 lead at halftime, and an equal effort in the third pushed the advantage to 46-22 heading into the fourth quarter.
Micaiah Cox had a team-high 16 points to go with his game-high nine rebounds. Caleb Martin and Matt Bihn scored 10 and nine points respectively off the bench, and Darien Sheffer was close behind with eight. Brandon “Speedy” Schoen had five points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals, with Chase Bruns and Kyle Schroer adding four points apiece.
Dane Wentworth scored 16 points to lead the Tigers.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team won for the eighth game in a row, defeating the Tigers 51-22.
Payton Jutte and Reese Rogers shared the game high of 11 points, with Clayton Person and Ryan Braun contributing eight and seven points respectively.

FR sets record
DAYTON, Ohio — Fort Recovery High School’s girls swim team set another school record Saturday at the Carroll Invitational at Wright State University.
The Indians finished second as a team with 188 points, behind host Carroll (Dayton) which scored 214 points. Xenia scored 152 points for third out of 10 teams.
Cassy Martin, Sophie Timmerman, Cori Stone and Ava Bubp combined to set a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay, winning the event.
The same four also teamed for victories in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Stone, Bubp and Timmerman also earned individual victories, doing so in the 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke respectively.
Fort Recovery’s boys finished fifth with 73 points.
