Schindler's career ends


FISHERS — Korinna Schindler will forever be remembered as the inaugural conference diving champion.
Now she can add regional qualifier to that list.
The South Adams High School senior had her diving career come to a close Tuesday in the IHSAA diving regional at Fishers.
Schindler, who last season was the Allen County Athletic Conference champion and was runner up in the sectional meet Saturday, placed 19th at regional.
The top eight places advance to the state finals.
Homestead freshmen Jackie Brenn and Mallory Walker finished first and second respectively. Brenn scored 467.4 points to claim the regional champinship, and Walker scored 432.45 points.
Their teammate Kayla Luarde (424.05) was third, and Maddie Folta of Fishers was fourth with 418.4.
Oak Hill’s Savannah Hart (398.4), Halli Siwik (384.5) of Hamilton Southeastern, Zionsville’s Jessi Adams (369.65) and Megan Hayes of Noblesville (362.4) were fifth through eighth.
Schindler scored 206.7 points.

Tankers win Norwell Invite
OSSIAN — The Jay County middle school swim team won its second meet in as many days Tuesday, claiming eight race victories to finish first at the Norwell Invitational.
They totaled 322 points for first, with Indian Springs (253) and South Adams (116) in second and third respectively.
Erica Hathaway and Ashlyn Dow each won two events for Jay County. Hathaway finished first in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle races. She had a time of 2 minutes, 15.53 seconds, in the 200 freestyle and touched the wall in 4:54.42 in the 400 freestyle.
Dow’s victories came in the 50 freestyle (27.18 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.11).
Rieley Brewster (50 butterfly – 30.8 seconds) and Eliza Bader (100 freestyle – 58.72) also earned individual wins.
Dow and Bader joined Lillian Clemmons and Brewster for a victory in the 200 medley relay in 2:04.76, then later teamed with Clemmons and Hathaway to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:52.46.
East Jay wins three
DALEVILLE — East Jay Middle School’s wrestling team picked up three more wins on Tuesday in a four-team dual meet at Daleville.
The Chiefs knocked off the Wes-Del Warriors 70-24 and shut out the host Broncos 78-0 before beating the Cowan Blackhawks 67-22.
Blayne Daniels (80 pounds), Zakk Atkins (105), Ian Ruiz (115), Brian Newman (120), Jackson Lyons (125), Braden McIntire (135), Mason Winner (145), Garrett Mann (155), Derek Allen (165) and Dakota Lairson (175) were all 3-0 in their respective weight classes. Cooper Jacks also went undefeated in his two matches at 195 pounds.
Dyllan Garringer (75), Dawson Hundley (85) and Zack Twigg (90) finished 2-1 on the day. Lita Chowning was 1-2 at 110 pounds.
Earning exhibition wins were Ethan Corwin, Cameron Lawhead, Garringer and Daniels.

Stars top Eagles
BERNE — The South Adams middle school wrestling team earned an 18-6 victory against the visiting West Jay Eagles on Tuesday.
Nevaeh Cox was the only West Jay wrestler to get a victory, winning by pin in her 150-pound match.

Carter Mitchell won his exhibition match by decision.
South Adams results were not provided.

Chiefs 6th split
WINCHESTER — East Jay’s sixth grade boys basketball teams split with host Driver on Tuesday.
The A squad won 34-30 and the B team lost, 16-12.
Gavin Muhlenkamp scored 10 points in leading the A team. Ethan Dirksen followed with eight points and Crosby Heniser totaled five points.
Tarron Bentz and Adam Muhlenkamp had four and three points respectively. Gavin Myers and Kyle Sanders scored two points each.
Dylan Knapschafer led the B team with six points. Hunter Chapman, Cristian Marentes and Adrek Pogue all had two points.

Eagles top Panthers
DUNKIRK — Quinn Faulkner spearheaded the offense as the West Jay sixth grade boys basketball team defeated the Muncie Southside Panthers on Tuesday, 53-41.
Faulkner exploded for a game-high 38 points as the Eagles improved to 6-6 on the year.
Camdin Harrison followed with eight points. Kess McBride and Trenton Alexander chipped in with five and two points respectively.

WJ girls win
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s sixth grade girls basketball A team ended its season Tuesday with a 22-12 victory over Muncie Southside.
The B team lost, 9-4.
Bella Rodgers scored nine points to lead the A team (7-4), with Kaelyn Denney adding seven points. Lizzy Dollar and Audrey Herman chipped in with four and two points respectively.
Aubri Hatzell and Dollar had two points apiece for the B team.

Chiefs fall
MUNCIE — The sixth grade boys basketball teams at East Jay dropped games Monday to the Muncie Northside Titans.
The A team lost 52-31, and the B squad fell 12-11.
Gavin Muhlenkamp led the A team with 13 points, followed by four each from Ethan Dirksen and Tarron Bentz.
Darius Esparza, Crosby Heniser, Adam Muhlenkamp, Gavin Myers and Kyle Sanders had two points apiece.
Keegan Hartzel scored three points to lead the B squad. Jacob Hart, Christian Marentes, Adrek Pogue and Bentz all had two points.
