Tribe girls rout in finale

ST. HENRY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team finished its regular season with a 45-22 victory Thursday over the St. Henry Redskins.
Fort Recovery (18-4, 7-2 MAC) led 11-2 after the first quarter before pushing its advantage to 21-10 at halftime. The Indians, who finished 11th in this week’s Division III Associated Press poll, outscored the Redskins (5-17, 1-8 MAC) 11-5 in the third quarter, and extended its lead during the final eight minutes.
Juniors Whitney Will and Jocelyn Kaiser led the Tribe with 16 and 11 points respectively. Carley Stone and Kendra Siefring added six points each and Grace Thien chipped in with four points.
Siefring also had a game-high eight rebounds.
Ellie Stammen was the lone Redskin player to reach double figures.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity squad lost 40-23.
Claire Metzger had 10 points and Chloe Metzger added nine points.
The Indians open their postseason tournament at 8 p.m. Feb. 20 at Wapakoneta.

Stars finish first
FORT WAYNE — The South Adams boys swim team finished first in a three-team meet Thursday at Fort Wayne South Side.
The Starfires won all swimming events to score 170 points. Marion was runner up with 99 points and South Side scored 51 for third.
Daniel Burson, Zach Teeple, David Steffen and Drew LeFever won two events each.
Burson handled the distance races, earning victories in both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events. Teeple claimed first place in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, Steffen won the 50 and 100 freestyle races and LeFever finished first in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
Steffen and Burson joined Zach Colpaert and Teeple for a victory in the 400 freestyle relay, and won the 200 freestyle relay with Ethan Duff and Colpaert.
The Starfires’ 200 medley relay team of Daniel Steffen, Chris Beitler, Teeple and LeFever also finished first.

SA routs Bruins
HARTFORD CITY — South Adams’ boys basketball team scored almost as many points in the second quarter (31) as Blackford did for the game Thursday in a 78-32 rout of the host Bruins.
South Adams (9-8) jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first quarter before its offensive explosion in the second. The Starfires were ahead 48-12 at half, then pushed the advantage to 61-24 heading into the final quarter.
Marcus Teeter scored 15 points as five Starfires reached double figures. Cole Myers, Jared Grabau and Justin Newman each had 11 points, and Justin Nussbaum followed with 10.
McGerran Clouser had nine assists to go with his seven points, and Teeter added six assists as well.
Joel Sharp scored 14 points to lead Blackford (0-18), which had its losing streak reach 45 straight games.
JC fourth, SA sixth
OSSIAN — Jay County’s middle school swim team finished fourth Thursday at the Norwell Invitational.
Bluffton won the team title with 250 points, and Indian Springs was second with 240 points. The host Knights (234) were third, and Jay County had a score of 154. South Adams (139.5) was sixth.
Juan Pablo Wiggins had a pair of third-place finishes for Jay County, doing so in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle events.
Chase McFarland was fourth in the 100 freestyle and seventh in the 100 individual medley, and Samuel Crump was eighth in both the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Konner Summers (fourth – 50 freestyle), Ben Strausburg (fifth – 100 breaststroke) and Tait Longsworth (eighth – 50 butterfly) also finished in the top eight.
South Adams’ Trey Lehman won the 100 freestyle and was second in the 50 freestyle. Grady Sprunger finished fifth in the 100 IM, and Parker Collingsworth was fifth in the 200 freestyle.

Eagles blanked
MONROE — West Jay Middle School’s wrestling team lost 39-0 to the Adams Central Jets on Thursday.
Sean Ashley, Dylan Bland and Draiden Arnold each won exhibition matches for the Eagles. Ashley pinned Blake Heyerly of Adams Central in 21 seconds, then Bland defeated Heyerly by a 5-0 decision.
Arnold pinned Austin Reinhart in 27 seconds in their exhibition match.
