Patriots drop first dual meet to Chargers

FORT WAYNE — Jay County High School’s gymnastics team lost a dual meet for the first time this season Monday.
The Patriots, who were without junior Jocelyn Huey, fell to the Carroll Chargers 106.975-93.425.
Junior Maddie Strasuburg was fourth in both vault and all-around. She scored an 8.65 to lead the team on vault, and her all around score of 32.175 was also a team-best. She added an 8.175 (fifth) on balance beam, 7.3 (sixth) on uneven bars and 8.05 (seventh) on floor exercise.
Freshman Karlie Bullard, senior Miranda Hibbard and freshman Riley Leavell were fifth, sixth and seventh respectively in the all-around. Bullard broke the 30-point mark with a 30.5. Hibbard’s 29.2 edged Leavell (29.15) by less than a tenth of a point.
Bullard and Hibbard both scored 8.45 to tie for sixth on vault, with Leavell scoring an 8.05 for ninth.
Bullard tied Strausburg with a 7.3 on bars, with Leavell (6.75 – eighth) and Hibbard (5.45 – ninth) following.
Leavell scored a 7.3 on beam, to finish sixth. Hibbard (7.15) and Bullard (7.05) were seventh and ninth respectively.
Hibbard, the lone JCHS senior, scored a 8.15 on floor to finish fifth. Bullard (7.7) was eighth and Leavell (7.05) placed ninth.

Chiefs fall
East Jay Middle School’s sixth grade boys basketball teams lost to the RJ Baskett Indians on Monday.
The A team lost 39-26, and the B team fell 20-18.
Gavin Muhlenkamp had a dozen points to lead the A team. Ethan Dirksen followed with six, and Gavin Myers chipped in with four points.
Crosby Heniser and Adam Muhlenkamp had three and one point respectively.
Darius Esparza tallied seven points for the B team. Tarron Bentz was second with six points. Shawn Fisher added three points and Cristian Marentes contributed two points.

East Jay girls lose
GAS CITY — East Jay’s sixth grade girls basketball teams both lost road games against RJ Baskett on Monday.
The A team lost 23-18, and the B team was at the losing end of a 18-14 score.
Madison Dirksen scored eight points for the A team, with Rachel Muhlenkamp following with six points. Heaven Hambrock and Emily Chenoweth had two points apiece.
Jayden Claytor paced the B squad with nine points. Madison Jetmore and Lindy Mercer both scored two points, and Chailey Muhlenkamp had one point.
