Backing crash
A bus crashed into a Dunkirk man’s SUV Monday morning in Richland Township.
Orrin F. Franklin, 75, 730 S. Main St., Dunkirk, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling east at the intersection of county road 400 South and Indiana 1 when a school bus stopped on the road and began backing up, striking the front of his 2013 Toyota Highlander.
Bus driver Tonya M. Fennig, 45, 8301 W. 400 South, Redkey, was also heading east on the road and stopped when she saw a power line on the roadway. She said she started backing up and did not see the Highlander behind her.
The bus is registered to Jay School Corporation, 1976 W. Tyson Road.
Damage in the 11:39 a.m. collision is estimated to be less than $1,000.
