Patriots to meet Archers
Class 4A Sectional 6 championship slated for 7:30 p.m. March 5
INDIANAPOLIS — The Patriots will meet a team they’ve beaten this year.
The Starfires weren’t as fortunate.
In the IHSAA boys basketball sectional draw held Sunday, Jay County High School was given an opening-round matchup against the Fort Wayne South Side Archers.
Jay County (16-5), which hosts sectional rival and defending state champion Homestead at 7:30 p.m. tonight, will open the Class 4A Sectional 6 tournament at 6 p.m. March 1 against the Archers (15-7) at Huntington North. The Patriots picked up a 58-55 road win Feb. 4 against the Archers in Fort Wayne.
The winner advances to the sectional semifinal at 6 p.m. March 4 against Muncie Central (13-9), which is a Class 4A school after consolidating with Muncie Southside before the 2014-15 school year.
The second opening-round game pits the Huntington North Vikings (15-7) — led by former JCHS coach Craig Teagle — against the Homestead Spartans (15-5) at 7:30 p.m. March 1. The winner advances to the second semifinal against the Wayne Generals (6-13) at 7:30 p.m. March 4.
The championship game is slated for March 7:30 p.m. March 5.
In the Class 2A Sectional 36 tournament at Bluffton, the Churubusco Eagles (6-16) meet the Eastside Blazers (13-7) at 6 p.m. March 1.
The winner advances to the first semifinal at 6 p.m. March 4 against defending sectional champion Fort Wayne Canterbury Cavaliers (12-9).
South Adams (11-9) plays the Adams Central Flying Jets (11-10) at 6 p.m. March 1 in the first game of a doubleheader. Adams Central defeated South Adams 53-49 on Saturday.
The Woodlan Warriors (10-10) meet the host Tigers (13-7) at 7:30 p.m. March 2. The second semifinal is slated for 7:30 p.m. March 4, with the championship game at 7 p.m. March 5.
