Stone earns first medal

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Cori Stone capped her career in a way no other Indian swimmer has before.
Earning a district medal.
Stone, a Fort Recovery High School senior, broke her own school record in the 100-yard butterfly to finish fifth in the Division II district meet Friday at Bowling Green State University.
She became the first district medalist in school history.
Her time of 1 minute, 1.34 seconds, was 1.01 seconds faster than her previous mark. She was also part of two school-record setting and medal-winning relay teams, joining Sophie Timmerman, Cassy Martin and Alexis Bubp to finish seventh in the 200 medley relay (1:55.7) and eighth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:48.76), which was almost 5.5 seconds quicker than the old record.
The same four set a new school record in the 200 freestyle relay (1:44.53), which finished 11th.
Timmerman was 12th in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.73), Martin finished 17th in the 100 freestyle (57.55) and Bubp was 24th in the 100 freestyle.
Timmerman and Martin set new records in their respective events, with Martin setting the record again later in the meet, opening the 400 freestyle relay with a split of 57.16 seconds.
Stone also set records with her freestyle relay splits, earning a time of 24.87 seconds to anchor the 200 freestyle relay and 54.81 seconds as the final leg of the 400 freestyle relay.
Hill third, twice
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Halle Hill earned a pair of third-place finishes Saturday in the Aloha in Memphis gymnastics invitational at Memphis Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee.
The West Jay Middle School eighth grader earned her highest score on the balance beam, totaling 9.325 points to place third in Level 8. She was also third on the vault with a 9.05. She scored 9.15 on floor exercise to place eighth, and earned the same spot on uneven bars with an 8.05. Her all around score of 35.575 was sixth.
Jay County High School sophomore Courtney Miles also competed, finishing eighth in Level 8 on beam with a 9.15. She was ninth on both vault (8.25) and bars (7.3), and scored an 8.925 on floor for 10th. She totaled 33.625 for all around, placing ninth.
