Cox named first team all-MAC

Micaiah Cox is getting better with age.
The Fort Recovery High School junior was named to the All-Midwest Athletic Conference first team on Tuesday for boys basketball.
The MAC also honored four of his teammates for their efforts on the hardwood.
Cox, who was a second team all conference player as a sophomore, helped lead the Indians to a 15-6 record this year and a 6-3 mark in conference play.
He started 20 games, leading the Indians in points (14) and rebounds (8.3) per game, while also totaling team highs in shooting percentage (55.9 percent), free-throw percentage (72.2 percent) and blocks (35).
Darien Sheffer, Chase Bruns and Brandon “Speedy” Schoen were given second team All-MAC honors. Sheffer, who was second on the team with 10.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, and Schoen (5.0 PPG) were both honorable mention as juniors.
Bruns’ 9.3 points per game was third on the squad, and he made a team-high 36 3-pointers.
Schoen had 100 assists and his 52 steals were 16 more than his closest teammate. The point guard had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.5.
Junior Caleb Martin, who missed two games because of a foot injury, scored 8.5 points per game and was third with 3.7 rebounds per game.

Rupp 19th
FISHERS — South Adams senior Xavier Rupp had his high school diving career come to an end Tuesday with a 19th-place finish in the IHSAA diving regional at Hamilton Southeastern.
The Starfire, who was third in the sectional meet at Jay County, totaled 180.9 points, ahead of only Muncie Central’s Griffin Hill (170.75), who beat Rupp at sectional.
Homestead senior Kevin Frebel won his third consecutive regional championship, totaling 560.55 points. Fishers sophomore Cole Van Devender was runner up with 498.7 points, and Dylan McCammon of Pendleton Heights placed third with 490.75.
Also qualifying for the state finals were Homestead’s Noah Marble 475.7), Hayden Wenger of Hamilton Southeastern (393.25), Jordan Loeser of Westfield (377.15), Lafayette Jefferson’s Clayton Vandervate (377) and Phoenix LaLopa of Harrison (358.6).
The top eight placers from each of the four regionals reach state.

JC freshmen win
Jay County’s freshman boys basketball team moved to 14-5 on the season Tuesday with a 61-23 victory over Union City.
The Patriots had a strong offensive effort throughout, leading 16-4 after the first quarter and taking a 33-11 lead into halftime.
Jay County pushed the lead to 30 points thanks to a 16-8 advantage in the third quarter, and they held the Indians to one field goal and a pair of free throws in the final seven minutes.
Gabe Faulkner scored nine of his game-high 13 points in the first half. Matt Franks hit a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 10 points, and Wyatt Geesaman had seven points in the third quarter on his way to nine points.
Parker Grimes chipped in with seven points for the Patriots, who also got four points from Xavier Ninde, Gavin Randal, Elijah Corwin and Noah Harris.
Korbin Auker, Isaac Moeller and Nathanael Day tallied two points each as all 11 players scored two or more points.

Eagles drop two
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s wrestling team dropped a pair of matches Tuesday in a double dual meet with Daleville and Wes-Del.
The host Eagles lost to the Daleville Broncos by a score of 18-6, and they were at the losing end of the same score against Wes-Del.
Nevaeh Cox picked up the only win for the Eagles against Daleville, winning her 145-pound match by pin. Elizabeth Dollar earned a pin against Wes-Del in her 85-pound match.
