Capsule Reports

Off road
A Portland man drove off county road 350 South into a ditch this morning.
Taylor R. Garringer, 20, 421 N. Munson Ave., was driving east near county road 700 West when his vehicle went off the north side of the road and into a ditch.
Garringer was driving a 1998 GMC Envoy registered Barbara A. Hollowell, same address.
Damage in the 5:30 a.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

Wal-Mart accident
Two Portland drivers were involved in an accident Tuesday in the parking lot at Wal-Mart, 950 W. Votaw St., Portland.
David A. Brown, 58, 6446 W. 400 South, was driving his 1998 Chevrolet Lumina and approaching a stop sign when the vehicle was struck in the rear by a 2009 Ford pickup driven by Donald R. McGraw, 67, 478 E. 200 North.
The Ford is registered to Lifestream Services, 1701 S. Pilgrim Blvd., Yorktown.
Damage in the 10:41 a.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.

Reignited
Portland fire department responded to a fire at 1547 W. 550 South, where a fire that started Sunday afternoon reignited.
One firefighter responded after the 7:49 p.m. call and put 200 gallons of water on the field.
The fire originally started with burning debris spread by heavy winds.

Intoxicated
A Pennville man was arrested Saturday in Wells County for operating while intoxicated.
Andrew Lee Batten, 37, was arrested after multiple calls reporting erratic driving. One driver went off the road to avoid a head-on collision; another reported a vehicle hitting a road sign, getting a flat tire and continuing along on just the rim.
A Wells County Sheriff’s Office deputy found Batten on Wells County Road 300 West, around county road 400 North. He was pulled over and arrested for operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 percent or higher and operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, Class A misdemeanors. His blood alcohol content was allegedly 0.364 percent.
He was booked to Wells County Jail and released on a $1,500 bond.
Batten was also cited for driving left of center and having no insurance.
