Chamber awards set for next week

Winners of the 2015 Jay County Community Awards will be announced Thursday night by the Jay County Chamber of Commerce during a ceremony Thursday in the commons at Jay County High School.
Citizen of the Year, Industry of the Year, Business of the Year, Innovator of the Year, Young Professional of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Award will be announced along with the Dunkirk Community Commitment Award.

Reach deal
A six-month lockout at Allegheny Technologies Inc. plants has come to an end with the company and the United Steelworkers union reaching a tentative agreement, Pittsburgh’s CBS-TV outlet reported this week.
The lockout affected 2,200 workers at 12 plants in Pennsylvania and five in other states.
ATI is the parent company of Portland Forge.

New program
Ardagh Group-North America, parent company of glass container plants in both Dunkirk and Winchester, has launched a new educational program on recycling and glass-making.
The free, online program features Captain Cullet and the Little Gob o’Glass and is aimed at elementary school students. Two online animated videos, mazes, puzzles and activities are included in the program.

Another acquisition?
Motherson Sumi Systems Limited, which has a Portland plant, is in early negotiations to acquire International Automotive Components Group for $750 to $800 million, Economic Times of India reported last week.
“The acquisition, if completed successfully, will also help Vivek Chand Sehgal, co-founder and chairman of Motherson Group, diversify further into newer product categories in the auto interiors space and more importantly break into key markets,” the newspaper reported.
In 2014-15, Motherson Group acquired the wiring harness business of Stoneridge, which has operated its Jay County plant since the 1980s under the names JCI and Alphabet.

New administrator
Kathy James has been hired as the new administrator at West Jay Community Center, board president Phil Ford announced this week.

James assumed her new duties earlier this month.
A volunteer for West Jay Middle School Campus Life, she is a member of Faith Ministries in Redkey and services on the community support team for Youth for Christ.
She resides in rural Dunkirk with her husband, Chris, and their three sons.
“She has excellent leadership and customer service skills, and we are confident she will do a great job,” Ford said.

State of county
County commissioner Faron Parr will address the state of the county during the Jay County Chamber of Commerce’s monthly networking luncheon at noon March 29 in the conference room of Jay County Hospital.

Festival approaching
The annual Fiber Fest/Spin In is set for March 11 and 12 at Jay County Fairgrounds. Crafters will be demonstrating spinning, weaving, quilting, sheep shearing and more.

Earnings up
Franklin Electric Co. of Bluffton reported 2015 annual earnings of $72.9 million on net sales of $925 million this week.
That represents a 4 percent increase over the previous year.
Now headquartered in Fort Wayne, the company makes submersible motors and pumping systems.

New staff
Family LifeCare of Berne and Marion has announced the hiring of Katie Mast and Emily Williams as homemakers in Jay County and Mary Dorsey as a certified nursing assistant in Wells County. Family LIfeCare provides home care, hospice and palliative services as a non-profit.
