Events to be held at Fort Recovery Library

Check out all the activities coming up this month at Fort Recovery Library.  
“An Introduction to Yoga” will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Jan. 13. The class will be taught by Sara Bruns and will include simple seated and standing poses that don’t require a mat.
Battle of the Books will be held in March for fourth through sixth grade students and the deadline to register is Jan. 14. Children will read books and be put on teams to answer questions during a competition on March 29. Register at the library or with a language arts teacher at school.
Kids of all ages are invited to make winter crafts from 6:15 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 19, and students in fourth through seventh grade can participate in Reader’s Theater at 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 26.  
A used book sale will be held at the library Feb. 1, through Feb. 6. Donations will be accepted.

At JCPL
Clubs are to meet at Jay County Public Library, 315 N. Ship St. in Portland.
JayCPL Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday. The book “Ragged Company” by Richard Wagamese will be discussed.
Hook & Needles Club will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m.  on Jan. 26. Bring ideas to share and supplies.
JayCPL Writers Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25. Come for support, ideas and input from peers.
Books given to the library by Alan and Rebecca Peterson included:
“American Blood” by Ben Sanders, “Meet the New You” by Elisa Pulliam and “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr.
     
Arts Place events
The Portland Center of Arts Place is accepting registrations for ArtWorks classes to begin in February and continue six weeks.

Oil painting with Steve McClung will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. each Tuesday. Students will learn to create realistic landscapes. The cost is $95.
Wheel throwing for kids with Kimberly Anderson will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. each Tuesday. Students will make cylinders, cups, bowls and mugs. The cost is $50.
A pottery class with Mary Boetgger will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. each Thursday. Students will learn how to center clay, make cylinders and glaze.
Tickets are also available for the last four shows of A Night on the Town Performance Series. Tickets can be purchased as a package for $55 for adults or $27.50 for students and are available through Jan. 16.
The guitar duo Loren and Mark will perform on Feb. 5; the music group Red Priest will play on Feb. 26; bluegrass artist Mipso will play on March 13 and the duo Matuto on April 9.  
Arts Place Collective Center in St. Marys, Ohio, will have a grand re-opening at its new location at 207 E. Spring St.
The event will be held on Jan. 16. Kids crafts will be from 1 to 3 p.m. and the opening will be from 6 to 9 p.m.
John Lennon and local artists’ work will be on display and refreshments will be served.

Ivy Tech enrollment
Ivy Tech Community College East Central region will offer express enrollment from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Muncie campus, 4301 S. Cowan Road.
Staff will assist students in applying for admission, student orientation, learning about ACCUPLACER, financial aid opportunities, scheduling to meet with an academic advisor and registering for classes.
Bring SAT, PSAT, ACT, high school transcripts or prior college credit if available. Classes will begin Jan. 11.

Dean’s list
Grant Hull, Fort Recovery, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2015 semester at Harding University in Arkansas. He is majoring in nursing.
