Wal-Mart theft
A Portland man was arrested for theft after he allegedly attempted to shoplift Thursday from Wal-Mart, 950 W. Votaw St., Portland.
Phillip J. A. Ball, 24, 205 N. Pierce St., was booked into Jay County Jail on a Class A misdemeanor theft charge at 2:19 p.m. after Portland police were called to the store at 1:53 p.m.
He remains there on a $1,000 bond.
Theft
A 14-year-old who attempted to steal from Dollar General, 220 W. Lincoln St., Portland, was taken to the Youth Opportunity Center, 3700 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie. Portland police were called at 7:03 p.m. Thursday.
Arrested
A Geneva man was arrested in Fort Recovery Sunday after a Mercer County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant observed suspicious behavior at Fort Recovery Car Wash, 104 S. Elm St.
Brian Harper, 34, 420 High St., was arrested at 5:48 a.m. in a traffic stop after he left the car wash.
He is being held in Mercer County Jail on two misdemeanors, tampering with coin machines and possession of criminal tools, as well as safecracking, a fourth degree felony.
A coin machine — not from the car wash — was allegedly observed in the back of Harper’s 2004 Chrysler Concorde.

Jay County Solid Waste Management District will have recycling trailers from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday:
•Marsh parking lot, Portland. Judan Judo.
•Parking lot south of West Jay Community Center, Dunkirk. West Jay Optimist Club.
