NLRB is prepping a complaint
Business roundup
The National Labor Relations Board is preparing an unfair labor practice complaint against Allegheny Technologies Inc., parent company of Portland Forge, in connection with a four-month lockout of 2,200 members of the United Steelworkers at some of its plants, the website Politico has reported.
The steelworkers union released a statements saying, “The NLRB complaint will allege, in part, that ATI bargained in bad faith both before and during the lockout.”
ATI’s statement in response said, “The decision by the NLRB to issue a complaint is not a final decision that any of the union’s allegations have legal or factual merit. Rather, it is a procedural step in the legal process. The company will now present its position to an administrative law judge.”
One of the sticking points in labor negotiations at the steel plants has been the rising cost of health care coverage.
