Turkey building tops permit list
Operation planned on county road 550 East
New construction topped the $1 million mark in Jay County in December, with three projects making up the bulk of that total.
Jay/Portland Building and Planning Department issued 16 building permits in December, including one to Lance Muhlenkamp for a $415,000 turkey confined feeding building on county road 550 East between county roads 300 North and 400 North.
Wes Harris received a permit for a $250,000 home at 5670 N. 650 West, rural Pennville, and J Star Farms got permits for a $100,000 compost and bio-security building and a $50,000 addition at its operation at 7500 E. Indiana 26.
Other permits were issued to: Dwane Smith for a $10,000 pole building at 5357 S. 400 East; Troy Muhlenkamp for a $3,000 grain bin at 4515 N. 700 East; Miles Johnson for a $17,000 grain bin at 8930 W. Indiana 18; Kaleb Hemmelgarn for a $30,000 pole building and pond at 1349 S. 700 East; Benjamin Albers for a $45,000 storage building at 7385 E. 50 North; Adam Westgerdes for a $30,000 building addition at 7678 E. 500 North; William L. Christner for a $30,000 swine confined feeding building at 7585 N. 250 East; Henry M.K. Eicher for a $55,000 house, barn and pond at 1892 W. 850 North; Richard Osterholt for a $4,000 residential addition at 821 E. Main St., Portland; Pam Mooneyham for a $7,000 storage building at 773 W. 200 South; Joseph Gaskill for a $6,400 storage building at 544 N. Charles St., Portland; and Edward Paxson for a $400 gazebo at 5593 N. 750 West.
