West Jay Eagles sweep Burris
Middle school roundup
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams both kept Muncie Burris to single-digit scoring in wins against the Owls on Thursday.
The WJMS eighth graders won 24-8, and the seventh graders earned a 19-3 victory.
Allison Jobe and Hallie Fields scored nine and eight points respectively to lead the eighth grade Eagles. Jobe added four rebounds and three steals, and Fields tallied seven steals.
Kymia Hankins tallied four points to go with her five rebound and five steals, and Delaynie Bennett chipped in with two points and five rebounds.
Lillian Clemmons led the seventh graders with seven points and five rebounds. Grace Morgan also recorded five rebounds to go with her six points. Demi Grove scored four points, with Sophia Fugiett and Ashlyn Denny scoring two points each.
Chiefs drop two
MUNCIE — East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams dropped games to the Delta Eagles on Thursday.
The eighth graders lost 28-11, and the seventh grade Chiefs fell 33-19.
Pacie Denney paced the seventh grade Chiefs with seven points, and Grace Saxman added six. Breanna Randall, Natalie Miles and Zoey Elzey each had two points.
Sara Muhlenkamp led the EJMS eighth grade team with three points. Mikele Suman, Anhely Montes, Taylor May and Macey Weitzel added two points apiece.
Tribe 7th wins
FORT RECOVERY — Clay Schmitz and Derek Jutte both reached double figures Thursday, helping the Fort Recovery seventh grade boys basketball team to a 39-23 win against Parkway.
The Tribe eighth graders fell, 49-38.

Schmitz led the way with 12 points and Jutte followed with 11. Reagan Martin and Ryne Post totaled four points each, and Gavin Thobe added three.
Grant Knapke had a team-high 17 points for the eighth grade Indians, and Ian Homan was close behind with 15. Jared Timmerman and Riley Dilworth both had three points.
FR, Flyers split
MARIA STEIN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams split with the Marion Local Flyers on Thursday.
The FRMS seventh graders moved to 10-0, edging the Flyers 33-32. The eighth grade Indians fell to 8-2 with a 33-26 loss.
Elena Evers led the Tribe seventh graders with 13 points, while Kierra Wendel followed with nine points. Hope Wendel chipped in with seven points, Brenna Homan scored three and Paige Fortkamp tallied two.
Macy Day day paced the eighth graders with nine points. Chloe Showalter was close behind with seven points, Val Muhlenkamp totaled six points and Olivia Patch notched four points.
Faulkner leads WJ
UNION CITY — Quinn Faulkner scored 16 points in leading the West Jay sixth grade boys basketball A team to a 26-18 victory over Union City on Thurday.
West Jay’s B team tied 6-6 in a shortened exhibition game.
Camdin Harrison totaled six points in support of Faulkner, with Caleb Hale and Trenton Alexander adding two points each.
Alexander led the B team with four points, and Hale notched two.
The WJMS eighth graders won 24-8, and the seventh graders earned a 19-3 victory.
