EJ boys beat Heritage
Middle school roundup
A strong first half helped the East Jay Middle School seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams to victories against the Heritage Patriots on Thursday.
The EJMS eighth graders kept Heritage without a point in the opening quarter in a 47-16 victory, and the Chief seventh graders held on to a 13-point halftime advantage to win 43-33.
Noah Arbuckle led the EJMS eighth graders with 18 points, and Gabe Link followed with a dozen. Brayden Sprunger chipped in with seven points, and Gavin Lambert added four.
Landon Grimes paced the seventh grade Chiefs with 18 points, and Nicholas Fields tallied nine. Griffin Mann and Bailey Cox had four points apiece.
The eighth graders improved to 5-6 (4-2 Allen County Athletic Conference), while the seventh graders moved to 6-5 (5-1 ACAC).
Miles leads EJ
MONROEVILLE — Natalie Miles scored 10 points Thursday as the East Jay seventh grade girls basketball team beat the Heritage Patriots, 36-6.
The East Jay eighth graders lost, 20-12.
Grace Saxman scored eight points in support of Miles, and Pacie Denney added six points. Alana Kunkler and Zoey Elzey had four points apiece for the seventh grade Chiefs.
Mikele Suman and Sara Muhlenkamp totaled four points apiece to lead the EJMS eighth grade squad. Anhely Montes chipped in with three points and Shadie Canterbury added one point.
Eagles edge Starfires
BERNE — West Jay’s eighth grade girls basketball team edged South Adams on Thursday, 22-21.
The Eagles seventh graders lost, 28-11.
Hallie Fields led the WJMS eighth graders with nine points to go with her two rebounds.
Kymia Hankins had five points in addition to a team-high eight rebounds. Allison Jobe tallied five points and six rebounds.
Delaynie Bennett and Devan Bennett had two and one point respectively.
Grace Morgan paced the seventh graders with seven points. She also had five rebounds.
Lillian Clemmons and Abbi Kuss had two points each.
WJ 7th falls
DUNKIRK — Frankie Crump scored 12 points Thursday but it wasn’t enough as the West Jay seventh grade boys basketball team lost to Eastbrook, 27-23.
Lane Chapman registered six points in support of Crump. Logan Brown added three points for the Eagles, who also got two points from Drew Powers.
Eighth grade scores were not provided.
FR, Tigers split
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams split with the Versailles Tigers on Thursday.
The Tribe seventh graders won 37-19, and the eighth graders lost 44-31.
Reagan Martin and Derek Jutte scored 11 points each to lead the FRMS seventh graders. Clay Schmitz followed with seven points and Ryne Post added four. Gavin Thobe and Riley Will had two points apiece.
Grant Knapke had a team-high 15 points for the eighth grade Indians. Ian Homan and Jared Timmerman scored seven points each, and Owen Schoen tallied two points.
Faulkner tallies 13
WINCHESTER — Quinn Faulkner scored 13 points in a losing effort Thursday as the West Jay sixth grade boys basketball A team came up short in a 32-27 defeat to Winchester Driver.
The West Jay B team also lost, 33-10.
Caleb Hale and Camdin Harrison each scored four points to help Faulkner. Trenton Alexander and Kess McBride had two points each, and Nick Street chipped in with one point.
Aaron Yates led the B squad with four points. Conner Miller, Alexander and McBride added two points apiece.

DUNKIRK — West Jay’s sixth grade girls basketball team edged Winchester Driver on Thursday, 24-23.
Bella Rodgers and Kaelyn Denney provided all the offense for the Eagles in the victory. Rodgers scored 16 points, and Denney chipped in with eight points.
