Jay County Hospital has reached an agreement that will allow it to provide eye care on site.
The hospital is partnering with Dr. Kevin T. Scripture of Whitewater Eye Centers of Richmond, Connersville and Greenville, Ohio, to form Eye Center of Jay County.
Beginning this month, Scripture will be available monthly to see patients at Specialty Referral Center at the Jay County Hospital Medical Pavilion Building at 510 W. Votaw St., Portland. He will be available for surgery consultations and same-day cataract surgeries. Scripture is a graduate of Morehead State University and earned his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine. He was an intern at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and served his residency at Indiana University Medical Center.

George’s Variety and Tan in Dunkirk closed its doors Jan. 9 after being open for about five years.
“Basically it just had to do with traffic and revenue,” owner Steve George said.
George also owned George’s Variety in Pennville, which closed before Christmas.
The recently expanded Family Dollar store in Dunkirk, which opened late last year, has expanded its food offerings. Dunkirk has not had a supermarket since Ludwig’s closed.
