Dunkirk fire
Several members of a family were injured early Thursday morning when a fire destroyed their home at 342 E. Center St., Dunkirk.
Joseph, Alex and Katelynn Geesy were all treated and released from Muncie’s IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where they were transported after suffering injuries while escaping from their burning home. Dunkirk firefighter Farrell Wells said the children fled the house by jumping out of an upstairs window.
Firefighters were called to the home of Joseph and Karlie Geesy and their four children at 3:26 a.m. Thursday, responding with two pumper trucks and a rescue truck from Dunkirk Fire Department along with one pumper truck from Albany. A total of 30 firefighters — 16 from Dunkirk and 14 from Albany — were on the scene of the fire until about 9 a.m.
The fire rekindled in the second story of the home at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Monetary donations for the family will be collected at tonight’s Jay County High School basketball games.
