Miles, Chiefs beat Bruins

HARTFORD CITY — Natalie Miles scored 12 points Tuesday as the East Jay Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team defeated the Blackford Bruins, 25-13.
The EJMS eighth graders also won, 24-20.
Grace Saxman and Alana Kunkler had four and three points respectively in support of Miles. Aubrie Schwieterman, Pacie Denney and Anna Heath scored two points each.
Macey Weitzel scored 10 points to lead the eighth grade Chiefs, and Taylor May added eight points. Mackynzie Fairchild and Asilyn Davis tallied two points apiece.

EJ boys fall
MUNCIE — East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both lost to the Delta Eagles on Tuesday.
The EJMS eighth graders fell 44-23, and the seventh grade squad lost 39-7.
Gabe Link had 13 points to lead the eighth grade Chiefs. Noah Arbuckle followed with five points, Alex McFarland totaled three points and Brian Williams had two points for East Jay, which was held scoreless in the opening quarter.

FR splits meet
MUNCIE — The Fort Recovery girls swim team split a double dual meet Tuesday with the Burris Owls and host Delta Eagles.
The Indians defeated Burris 60-34, but lost to Delta 59-42.
Fort Recovery’s boys lost both, 75-7 to Burris and 90-4 to Delta.
Cassidy Martin was the lone dual winner for Fort Recovery, finishing first in both the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Cori Stone (100 butterfly) and Sophie Timmerman (100 breaststroke) also won their respective events.
Faith Hull, Alexis Bubp, Martin and Stone combined to win the 200 freestyle relay. The 400 freestyle relay team of Martin, Bubp, Stone and Timmerman also earned a victory.

Grimes leads in loss
Parker Grimes scored a game- and season-high 22 points Tuesday but the Jay County freshman boys basketball team lost to Wapahani, 40-38.
Grimes had nine points in the second quarter, helping Jay County (7-3) to a 17-12 lead at half.
Wapahani, however, came out firing in the third quarter by scoring 17 points for a 29-26 lead heading into the fourth.
Wyatt Geesaman followed Grimes with eight points, and Xavier Ninde chipped in with four points.
